Fazit: The Acer Ferrari 1000 is a very attractive package that manages to wear the Ferrari badge with pride due to the brute force approach of an AMD Turion X2 ML-60. The sleek style of the Ferrari 1000 certainly has a lot of appeal but you’ll have to put up with an external optical drive, which seems a step backwards when Intel based rivals can integrate one yet are even lighter. But while you might be able to cope with that, the lack of battery life in an ultra-portable is a flaw that could prove harder to ignore.

Fazit: The Acer Ferrari 4000 Series is destined to become a popular laptop, with its celebrated Ferrari emblem and race-car design. It's a bit big for frequent travelers, though, and in order for Acer's Ferrari notebooks to count as a full line, there had to be another system. Just like Batman had Robin, the Ferrari 4000 now has a sidekick, and the new guy's got mobility in mind. The ultraportable Acer Ferrari 1000 Series ($1,999 list) gives new meaning to the term "carry-on," as it weighs a scant 3.5 pounds. It's also got a pretty fast engine, which we tech geeks refer to as an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor.

Fazit: We would be very interested to see how many Ferrari car owners actually own a Ferrari-branded PC. We would be willing to bet that it wouldn’t be that many. Acer’s Ferrari 1000 must then be aimed at professionals with some money, but not the necessary cash to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on a sports car. In that way it feels almost as desperate as a baseball cap with the familiar prancing pony motif emblazoned on it. Either way, the Ferrari laptops have always been excellent examples of portable computing power, with the sort of strength you can’t argue with no matter how you might feel about the ostentatious styling. It’s a little disappointing, then, that Acer has opted to fill its ultra-light 12.1in Ferrari 1000 with a 2GHz AMD Turion 64 x2 ML-60 CPU when Intel’s dual core chips are universally ruling the roost these days.

Fazit: Neben den griffigen Oberflächen tat Acer alles dafür, dass auch das Handling der Computerferraris ähnlich unmittelbar und knackig ist wie das der Autos.

Fazit: The Acer Ferrari 1000 is stylish, loaded with features and accessories, and is plenty fast thanks to the AMD dual core processor. Outside of these three accolades, how does one recommend the Ferrari 1000? It is heavy for the 12” ultraportable category, battery life is unimpressive, and the optical drive is external (which could be a pro or con). Gamers need not look this way, due to the meager integrated graphics that you come to expect with a 12” form factor. With an MSRP of $1999 and a one year warranty, the Ferrari 1000 is rather pricey for student and home users, while lacking in other areas for more pricey business users.

ATI Radeon Xpress 1150: ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 / 1150 ist der Nachfolger des Xpress M200 Chipsatzes, stellt eine integrierte X300 Grafik mit shared memory bereit und unterstützt DDR2 und DirektX9. Sie gehört zum leistungsschwächsten Drittel mobiler Grafikkarten und kann daher nur für ältere Spiele sinvoll eingesetzt werden. Für Büroanwendungen und zum Surfen reicht es aber ohne Probleme.

AMD Turion 64 X2: AMD Turion 64 X2 (Codenamen Taylor und Trinidad) soll gegen den Intel Core Duo positioniert werden und ist ein 64 Bit Dual Core (2 Kern) Prozessor mit DDR2-667 Unterstützung. Leistungsmäßig dürfte er mit dem Core Duo (mit gleicher MHz Zahl) vergleichbar sein.

12.1": Es handelt sich um das häufigste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Es stellt die durchschnittliche Grösse für Subnotebooks dar.

Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das winzige Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten sehr anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind fast nicht nutzbar.

1.8 kg: Diese Subnotebooks sind deutlich leichter als der Durchschnitt aller Notebooks, stellen aber die höhere Gewichtsklasse unter den Subnotebooks dar. 12 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

Acer: Acer ist einer der internationalen Hersteller mit den meisten Marktanteilen weltweit und den meisten getesteten Notebook-Modellen im deutsch- und englischsprachigen Raum. Allerdings schafften es in diesen Tests bisher relativ wenige Modelle in Top-Positionen bzgl. Gesamtwertung und Preis/Leistungs-Bewertung.
