Fazit: The first impression is that we are talking about a great machine packed in a super-cool looking case. A friend that already owns a small Sentia could not get its eyes off the new Sentia 3400 and made a brave statement that it wants to buy this one as well. It is a fast machine with 100 GB storage and now it's glowing it looks even better than before. It is a real eye-catcher. The battery will get you some three plus hours and if you buy an additional one you will be fine for six hours. The additional one costs roughly €75 and it is a worthy investment. We are never satisfied with battery life as it can always be better but three hours is satisfactory.

Fazit: Alienware is well known for its ostentatious gaming desktop computers. The Sentia m3400 may not win the hearts of hardcore gamers, but it's a well-designed, stylish notebook. The Alienware Sentia m3400 uses a 2GHz Pentium M processor and a generous 1Gb of memory. It also employs a clever trick of slowing down to save battery life when less power-hungry tasks are happening. This is indicative of Intel Centrino technology, which the m3400 uses, but we expected a lot more than the two hours of battery life achieved in our tests. The Intel Extreme graphics are integrated and can share from 8Mb to 128Mb of system memory, depending on the severity of the task in hand.

Fazit: Take a quick look at the specs for the Sentia m3400, and then its price tag, and you could be forgiven for walking away and buying something else. The Pentium M, as we know, has been superseded by the Core Duo and even the Core Solo, so is well on its way to the bargain bucket before being put out to stud. For a brand such as Alienware, this is a little unusual – but the Pentium M 760 that it uses is a long way from useless. What you probably won’t notice from just looking at the spec list is that the hard drive inside the m3400 is no ordinary unit. In almost all hard drives, the zeros and ones that make up your data are laid out in a longitudinal manner. This is the way hard drives have been ever since IBM first worked on them over 50 years ago. For the money you can buy so much better and you should, even with the free T-shirt.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900

Es handelt sich um einen onboard Grafikchip (auf Intel Mobile 915GM Chipsatz) mit 333 Mhz Core, 4 Pixel-Pipelines, Shared Memory und Direct X 9 Hardware Support. Der Chip ist in unserem Grafikkarten-Vergleich in der zweitschlechtesten Leistungsklasse 5 (1=beste, 6=schlechteste) eingeordnet und kann daher nur für ältere Spiele sinvoll eingesetzt werden. Für Büroanwendungen und zum Surfen reicht es aber ohne Probleme. Der Vorteil von integrierten Grafiklösungen ist ein geringer Stromverbrauch, was längere Akkulaufzeiten ermöglicht. Speziell für Subnotebooks, wo Mobilität wichtig ist, ist das nützlich. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 ist bei den integrierten Grafik-Lösungen derzeit sehr empfehlenswert. Intel Pentium M

Mit Intel Chipsatz (855 oder 915) und Intel WLAN ist dieser Prozessor auch unter der Bezeichnung Centrino bekannt (Name für das Paket). Er ist verglichen mit anderen Prozessoren sehr schnell pro Megahertz und sehr genügsam. Er ist sehr gut bei Integer (Ganzzahlen), hat jedoch leichte Schwächen bei Floating Point (Gleitzahlen) Berechnungen. Er ist auch als Low Voltage Version erhältlich mit sehr geringem Stromverbrauch. 2005 war er der bei weitem häufigsten genutzte Mobilprozessor, da er sich für fast alle Anwendungen und auch Subnotebooks eignet. 14.1 Zoll Display

Diese Displaygrösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und dem 15 Zoll-Standard-Display dar. Stundenlanges Lesen von Texten könnte anstrengend für die Augen sein, dafür profitiert man ein wenig von den Vorteilen des geringeren Stromverbrauchs (günstig für die Akkulaufzeit) und der kompakteren Dimensionierung des Gehäuses.
