Das MacBook Air ist, zumindest in der größeren Version, mehr als nur Apples Interpretation eines Nobel-Netbooks. Mit ihm lassen sich die meisten im Alltag anfallenden Aufgaben zügig bewältigen, auch Gestalter und Fotografen, die eine leichte Zweitmaschine suchen, können damit durchaus glücklich werden. Das Schreiben von Texten auf dem Air ist ein Vergnügen, da der Computer weder rackelt noch röchelt oder sonstwie vor sich hinventiliert, wenn sein Besitzer gerade ungestört denken möchte.

Apple's MacBook Air 13-inch model may be slightly larger but for the extra money over the 11-inch model, it is the better choice. The system is still extremely portable but doesn't sacrifice as much performance, battery life or storage space. It still has its downsides such as not being upgradeable after purchase but it is so hard to really fault Apple on these when there is no other ultrathin laptop to compare with it.

It’s probably no surprise to learn we’re smitten by this MacBook Air. For those who crave the sensibly-sized screen and proper keyboard of a full-sized laptop, but wish it could weigh next to nothing, perform well and last a full day, there’s nothing quite like it. It doesn’t roar through tasks like the VAIO Z13, nor quite match its wonderful screen, but the MacBook Air comes across as reasonable value by comparison. Yes, it’s dear, but it really is an experience worth paying for.

The battery lasts long enough that I could work and enjoy some entertainment for many hours – about 4-5 depending on conditions. The screen is bright enough that even with sun shining through the window it was viewable despite being a glossy screen. The keyboard is comfortable enough to type even in a bumpy car. The size is perfect for pulling the computer out of the bag even in cramped spaces. The weight and thickness make carrying the MacBook Air in a bag, with every possible accessory I could possibly need, lighter than my previous monster of a laptop. It has enough power to charge an iPad and other accessories over USB overnight.

The Air is remarkably responsive, and while it's not cut out for heavy A/V editing, there's more than enough here for the casual Photoshop user. I really like the form factor of the 11-inch MacBook Air. It's great to carry around. It's like an iPad for people who have to get real work done. I just wish it was faster. If Intel made a 32nm Core 2 Duo, clocked high enough the 11 would be perfect. I guess that’s what Atom is eventually supposed to be, but right now the performance is just too low. Intel appears to have been too conservative with Atom. Perhaps Bobcat and ARM’s Cortex A15 will light a fire under Intel's Atom team.

NVIDIA GeForce 320M: Chipsatzgrafikkarte basierend auf den GT216 Kern (GeForce GT 325M) ohne dediziertem Speicher.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

13.3": 13 Zoll ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das verhältnismäßig kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten ein wenig anstrengend für die Augen ist. Sehr hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar. Nicht fehlsichtige Menschen sollten mit dieser Displaygröße aber zurechtkommen können.

Die Verbalbeurteilungen klingen aber oft besser als sie wirklich sind, denn richtig gelästert wird über Notebooks eher selten. Obwohl dieser Bereich offiziell meist einem "Befriedigen" entspricht, passt oft eher "mäßiger Durchschnitt".
