Um eine konkurrenzfähige Akkulaufzeit zu bekommen, muss man beim Asus Eee PC 1008P den zweiten Akku immer aufgeladen dabei haben. Das Netbook fällt daher eher in die Kategorie "Schönling" statt "Langläufer": Dort ist es aber ziemlich konkurrenzlos und deshalb eine klare Empfehlung für design-orientierte Netbook-Nutzer, die auch bereit sind, für ein attraktives Äußeres etwas mehr zu zahlen.

Für den Asus EeePC 1008P gilt Ähnliches wie für viele Apple-Produkte - das Design ist gewichtiges Kaufargument, erst dann kommt die Technik. Vor allem im Hinblick auf den schlechten Bildschirm wird dies deutlich. Außerdem müssen Anwender mit verdeckten Anschlüssen leben. Fallen diese beiden Punkte bei der Kaufentscheidung nicht sonderlich stark ins Gewicht erhält der Käufer ein einzigartiges Netbook.

Der schicke Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008P von Karim Rashid konnte uns größtenteils überzeugen, aber einige Minuspunkte stehen ebenfalls im Raum. Die gestiegene Akkulaufzeit und der gleichzeitig geringere Stromverbrauch sind sehr positiv und mit einer maximalen Akkulaufzeit von 13 Stunden und 28 Minuten wurden die Herstellerangaben von Asus übertroffen. Für diese hohe Akkulaufzeit gibt es von uns die vollen 100 Prozent der Wertung. Betrachtet man die Laufzeit eines Akkus kommen wir immer noch auf glatte 95 Prozent.

ASUS ist mit seinem Designerstück EeePC 1008p KR beinahe ein Meisterstück gelungen, das in seiner Art im Netbook-Segment bislang einzigartig ist, denn die Verarbeitungsqualität sucht im Preisbereich von rund 380 Euro ihresgleichen. Der EeePC 1008p KR stellt den erfahrenen Notebook-Tester vor eine schwierige Aufgabe, denn seinen größten Vorteil kann man nicht messen und auch nur schlecht in Worte fassen: Das genutzte Material ist enorm hochwertig und vermittelt eine samtige Anfassqualität, die ihresgleichen sucht.

Schade, schade… Asus neuer Edelmini Eee PC 1008P hätte es, mit einem besseren Display, leicht in die vorderen Ränge unserer TOP10 der Netbooks geschafft und auch eine bessere Note erreicht. Die Leistung des Intel Atom N450 Prozessors ist dank der Übertaktungsfunktion überdurchschnittlich. Die Verarbeitung ist optimal und der Kleine bleibt auch bei langem Betrieb kühl und leise.

The era of low end netbooks has gone. Much more attention is given to the design and look of new generations, to the point where manufacturers are calling in big name designers to lend their stamp. Well-designed, light and quiet, this Karim Rashid 1008P surprised us nicely. Its glossy, mediocre panel does however cost it a star on our rating. It remains a nice product to use and easy to transport. It would make a nice gift for someone!

The Eee PC 1008P is the latest generation "premium" netbook from Asus. The company took help from famous designer Karim Rashid to add some of sort of uniqueness to its design. Along with the updated laundry list of internal components, the Eee PC 1008P is "Year 2010-ready". It's got almost everything right for a netbook; it's thin, lightweight, has a comfortable keyboard/touch-pad and decent battery life - thanks to the extra battery pack. The main gripe we had with the 1008P is the low screen brightness. Also, just two USB ports could be too less for some people.

Unfortunately, we think we have to add the 1008P to the list of laptops that suffer from performance issues at the expense of better design, like the HP Envy and Dell Adamo. While we love the textured chassis (in brown!) and think it's one good looking netbook, we can't justify paying more for less battery life. If we're going to pay $499 for a netbook, we'd take the Ion-equipped Eee PC 1201N that has comparable battery life to the 1008P, but much better gaming and HD performance. That's not to say the 1008P isn't perfect for those that are all about netbook beauty, but we're just doubtful that's the case for many people, and thus we don't see why you wouldn't go with a cheaper option like the 1005PE with its eight hours of battery life.

Intel announced its new Pine View platform for netbooks just before Xmas and CES 2010 was awash with new models that made use of it. The first to hit the Mobile Computer office is the ASUS Eee PC 1008P Seashell Karim Rashid Edition but, as the name suggests, there’s a bit more to this netbook than a new processor. The Intel Pine View platform isn’t much to get excited about, but the Eee PC 1008P that’s wrapped around it is a really nice looking netbook that makes a refreshing change from the plain designs of other manufacturers.

The 1008P-KR is the first netbook built on the PineTrail platform i get to play with. That’s why i was really excited when i got it. Especially after seeing the design and the fact that they dropped the shiny glossy finish for a more “usable” one. Good news kept coming, with the improved hardware specs , better keyboard and touch-pad. However, i was quickly disappointed somehow by overall performance levels, that is similar to what the previous 10 inch line of Asus netbooks had to offer. I was expecting noticeable improvements

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrierte (shared memory) Grafikkarte welche im Prozessor Intel Atom N4xx integriert ist. Basiert laut Intel auf einen "optimierten" X3100 Kern, ist jedoch nur minimal schneller als der alte GMA 950. Daher für HD Videos und 3D Spiele nicht geeignet.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N450: Intel Atom CPU für Netbooks mit integriertem DDR2 Speichercontroller und GMA 3150 Grafik. Die Leistung ist nur etwas besser eine Kombination aus N270 / GMA950, jedoch ist der gesamte Stromverbrauch deutlich besser. 10.1": Es handelt sich um ein kleines Displayformat für Subnotebooks bzw. sind 10 Zoll das Standardformat für Netbooks. Der Vorteil der Mini-Notebooks liegt darin, dass das Gerät klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das vergleichsweise kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten relativ anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar wegen zu kleiner Schrift- und Icongröße.

1.14 kg: Dieses Subnotebook/Netbook/UMPC, sofern man es als solches überhaupt bezeichnen kann, gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann klarerweise hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt kaum Sub-Notebooks, aber ein paar Netbooks in dieser extremen Gewichtsklasse. 7-9 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

70.47%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Die meisten Notebooks werden besser beurteilt. Als Kaufempfehlung darf man das nicht sehen. Auch wenn Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich gar nicht so schlecht klingen ("genügend" oder "befriedigend"), meist sind es Euphemismen, die eine Klassifikation als unterdurchschnittliches Notebook verschleiern.
