Price tag for ASUS F50Sv is somewhere around 900€ which is relatively high, but with good reasons. First, there is Blu-ray optical device that doesn’t come cheap (no, it comes expensive). Second is top of the range Intel Core 2 Duo CPU that also has important influence on the final price. If you find this model with DVD combo, slower CPU and significantly lower price, it will make ASUS F50Sv a very interesting purchase, above all, because of its exceptional quality build.

Sixteen-inch laptops comprise a growing category, perhaps because they sit between the semiportable, 15-inch, mainstream systems and the heavy, 17- and 18-inch models that are essentially desk-bound machines with hinged screens. The $1,249 Asus F50SV-A2 packs a Blu-ray drive and a new mainstream Nvidia graphics chip into a relatively on-the-go package that's lighter than gaming beasts, but heavier than a standard laptop. While it's a Blu-ray-equipped 16-inch laptop with good gaming muscle, the Asus F50SV-A2's design left us cold.

The ASUS F50SV-A2 gave strong performance in our benchmarks and real-life game tests, thanks mostly to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M graphics card. I really enjoyed the design and great build quality, which should allow the notebook to last until it is no longer fast enough to run the latest software. Overall I think a perfect change might be swapping the Blu-ray drive for a higher resolution screen, but I may be biased already owning a Blu-ray player. If you are in the market for a higher performing multimedia notebook, check out the ASUS F50SV, but make sure you are always within range of a power outlet.

ASUS provides consumers with a strong 16-inch notebook with solid graphics, speedy performance, and the latest in high-definition playback for $1,149. While we don’t expect this machine to stray too far from an outlet, its battery life is rather limited compared to other 16-inch systems. If you’re considering purchasing this machine, it’s worth taking a look at the Acer Aspire 6930G-6723, which while heavier and not as powerful, gets double the runtime and has a Blu-ray drive for $150 less. Still, those looking for a 16-inch notebook with strong performance and stunning Blu-ray playback should consider the ASUS F50Sv-A2.

Asus’s latest entertainment notebook is both affordable and effective. It offers everything you’d need for gaming, movie watching, and video editing for a very reasonable price of $1,149. It’s not the fastest performer on the market, but it’s far from slow and delivers enough power to serve your media needs. While the F50SV-A2 lacks some of the sex appeal of other entertainment notebooks, it offers a nice balance of features and performance for the price.

Asus has been producing excellent mid-range computers for years. The F50GX is no exception, and represents good value for money. Overall, it's not the most attractive laptop, or the best performing, but it does have the widest range of features. If you need Expresscard or HDMI, then this is the model for you. Sadly, that's not enough to lift it out of the middle of the pack.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M: Die GeForce GT 120M ist wahrscheinlich eine geringfügiger getaktete GT 130M mit geringerem Stromverbrauch.

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (G) / ION (LE): Integrierte (shared Memory) Grafikkarte und zum Zeitpunkt des Erscheinens schnellste integrierte Grafikkarte für Notebooks. Von Apple nur 9400M genannt. Wird auch in der ION (LE) Plattform verwendet. Mit DDR3 Hauptspeicher vergleichbar mit Einsteigslösungen wie der 9300M GS. Integrierter PureVideo HD (VP3) Videoprozessor zum Dekodieren von HD Videos.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

P8600: Schneller, sparsamer und leistbarer Zweikernprozessor. Für die meisten Spiele und Multimedianawendungen ausreichend schnell und mit 25 Watt TDP auch für kleinere Notebooks geeignet.

T6400:

16.0: 16 Zoll Display-Varianten gibt es im Großen und Ganzen erst seit 2009, dürften aber immer häufiger werden, vor allem in Kombination mit 16:9 Diagonalen. Die Bildschirmgröße ist etwas größer als die häufige Standardgröße 15 Zoll. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
