Our main complaints center around the low screen resolution, loud touchpad buttons, and lack of ports (no USB 3.0 or eSATA). Otherwise there is a lot to like here: very good performance, a decent keyboard and speakers, cool and quiet operation, a solid chassis, five hours of battery life, and a two-year warranty standard. Overall, the ASUS K53E is a reasonable 15.6-inch multimedia notebook and gets our recommendation.

A good price/performance ratio makes this ASUS a perfect candidate for our Best Buy award, which it would’ve got until we were informed that, as we’ve already said, there would be a model without the discreet graphics and costing 50€ less. That way, the aforementioned ratio really reaches the perfect balance, raising the usability value of netbooks far above what we’ve grown accustomed to enjoy up to now, and bridging the gap between netbooks and notebooks. For now, K53BY will have to enjoy its other award, while we rest assured that one of its variants will be the absolute best buy in this class.

Archive.org versionMinimalist - Preiswertes Einsteiger-Notebook mit 15,6-Zoll-Display. Mit dem Einsatz leistungsschwacher Hardware im K53U-SX071V hat sich Asus keinen Gefallen getan. Da das Arbeitstempo bei einfachen Aufgaben äußerst niedrig ausfällt, ist das Notebook selbst für Notebook-Einsteiger nur bedingt geeignet.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Unter dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen eine breite Palette von Produkten, darunter Laptops, Desktops, Motherboards, Grafikkarten, Monitore, Smartphones und Netzwerkgeräte, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden.
Unter dem Markennamen ROG (Republic of Gamers) stellt ASUS Gaming-Laptops her, die bei Spielern für ihre leistungsstarken Spezifikationen, dedizierten Grafikkarten, Displays mit hoher Bildwiederholrate und fortschrittlichen Kühlsystemen bekannt sind.
Über das Gaming hinaus werden eine breite Palette von Notebooks für unterschiedliche Anforderungen und Budgets geboten: von ultraschlanken und leichten Ultrabooks bis hin zu vielseitigen 2-in-1-Convertibles und budgetfreundlichen Optionen. 2023 hatte Asus einen Weltmarktanteil von 7% am PC-Markts.
Die Kundenzufriedenheit mit ASUS-Notebooks betrifft Leistung, die Funktionen und das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der ASUS-Notebooks. Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es jedoch gelegentlich Berichte über Probleme wie Überhitzung, Treiberkompatibilität oder Probleme mit der Verarbeitungsqualität.
Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).
AMD Radeon HD 6250: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Ontario Netbook Prozessoren (z.B. C-50 und C-30) mit UVD3 Video Prozessor und keinem eigenen Speicher.
Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M: Mittelklasse Grafikkarte basierend auf dem GT 435M Chip (GF108) jedoch mit minimal höheren Taktraten und Unterstützung für GDDR5 und DDR3 mit 900 MHz.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Einsteigergrafikkarte basierend auf den GF119 Chip (Fermi Ableger) mit 64 Bit Speicheranbindung oder den GF108 mit 128 Bit aber geringeren Taktraten.
AMD Radeon HD 6650M: Nachfolger der Mobility Radeon HD 5650 mit mehr Shader Kernen, UVD3 Videoprozessor und Eyefinity+. Dem Codenamen nach zu urteilen eine 6750M mit langsamen DDR3 Speicher.
AMD Radeon HD 6720G2: Dual Graphics (asymmetrisches CrossFire) einer dedizierten Radeon HD 6650M in Verbindung mit einer 6520G APU Grafikkarte (z.B. im AMD 3400M).
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Einsteiger-Mittelklasse Grafikkarte mit Codenamen Seymore XT.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX: Einsteigergrafikkarte basierend auf den GF119 Chip (Fermi Ableger) mit 64 Bit Speicheranbindung. Technisch eine höher getaktete GT 520M.
AMD Radeon HD 7610M: Basiert auf den selben Chip wie die Radeon HD 6630M jedoch mit etwas geringeren Taktraten und nur 5 statt der 6 SIMD Blöcke = 400 Shader.
NVIDIA GeForce 610M: Umbenannte Geforce GT 520M bzw 520MX Einsteigergrafikkarte und damit noch auf die Fermi Architektur in 40nm basierend.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Umbenannte Radeon HD 6650M und dadurch noch in 40nm gefertigt.

AMD E-Series:
E-350: Intel Atom Konkurrent mit relativ schneller integrierter Grafikkarte. Der Doppelkernprozessor sollte etwas langsamer als ein Intel SU2300 (1.2 GHz) sein, die Grafikkarte etwas unter dem Niveau von ION.
AMD C-Series:
C-50: Intel Atom Konkurrent mit relativ schneller integrierter Grafikkarte. Der Doppelkernprozessor ist auf Grund seiner geringen Taktung wohl nur auf dem Niveau von Einzelkern Atoms mit 1.6GHz.

Mit diesem Gewicht ist ein Laptop eher schwerer als der Durchschnitt. Geräte in diesem Bereich glänzen eher mit Bildschirmgröße und Leistung als mit Mobilität.
76.74%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Diese Bewertung muss man eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich ansehen, denn es gibt etwa ebenso mehr Geräte mit schlechtere Beurteilungen als Besseren. Eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen, es sei denn es handelt sich um Websites, die generell streng urteilen.
