Im Prinzip handelt es sich beim Asus N90SV-UZ058C um ein Multimedia-Notebook mit Stärken und Schwächen. Es ist für die Aufgaben geeignet, für die es gebaut wurde, nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Somit können Filmfans sich über den FullHD-Bildschirm sowie das eingebaute Blue-ray-Laufwerk freuen und werden auch auf der Festplatte genügend Platz finden. Leider leistet sich Asus einige Patzer bei der Verarbeitung und auch die Schönheit der Piano-Lack-Optik ist nicht von langer Dauer. Zudem wäre eine Video-Bearbeitungssoftware im Lieferumfang angebracht gewesen. Alles in allem machen Multimedia-Fans mit dem Asus N90SV-UZ058C nichts verkehrt und können beruhigt zugreifen, wenn Mobilität nicht zu den Entscheidungskriterien zählt.

ASUS N90 - Multimedia-Talent mit 18,4 Zoll

ASUS‘ N90 ist ein sehr gutes Multimedia-Notebook, das beinahe ohne Fehl und Tadel auskommt. Es besitzt ein schickes, wenn auch recht fingerabdruckanfälliges Gehäuse, das gemessen an der Display-Diagonale gar nicht einmal so schwer ausfällt. Auch die verbaute Hardware-Ausstattung kann überzeugen. Insbesondere sticht NVIDIAs GeForce GT130M aus der Masse hervor, die auch das ein oder andere Spielchen erlaubt – zumindest dann, wenn nicht in der nativen Display-Auflösung gezockt werden soll.

After all is said and done I think this fits nicely into its niche, which is a non portable, non gaming, multimedia laptop. With the addition of a built-in tuner, IR port, and a remote control it would almost be perfect. I say almost because the price tag is a bit high. With a retail price of $1799 it may be a bit out of reach for the target market I mentioned above. In fact you could get a much more powerful nice desktop for that price, in fact I recently built a new desktop computer and it only cost me $1450. However, nobody pays retail and it is fairly easy to find this laptop for quite a bit less. With just a few minutes of searching on Amazon I was able to find this laptop (with smaller hard drives) for $1399, and an upgraded model (faster CPU and hard drives) for $1633. If you are in the market for a really large multimedia laptop, and you have $1399 or more to burn, you might want to check out the ASUS N90Sv.

If you're easily impressed by size, you'll love the Asus N90Sv A2. Its 18.4-inch display is big and beautiful. Its dual hard drive setup gives 1TB of storage, and its 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M graphics card has no trouble delivering HD content to larger screens. It's a good-looking laptop, too. We just wish the N90Sv A2's overall performance were more on par with its large price tag. It's not an ideal multimedia laptop, but the Asus N90Sv A2 is a good-looking, well-appointed desktop replacement.

The ASUS N90Sv-X1 is certainly a desktop replacement laptop because of its large 18.4-inch display and 9.3 pound weight but it also offers solid performance for its $1400 price tag. The display is one of the best features of the laptop with its very bright and colorful output. For those looking for a laptop to be taken around periodically but a bit more performance, the N90Sv-X1 offers a good balance but you do have to live with fewer ports and a case that will frequently need cleaning.

If pure performance is paramount, the MSI GT725 packs a 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Quad 9000 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 graphics, Blu-ray, and a FullHD display for $100 less—if you’re willing to downgrade to a speedy, yet much smaller 320GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive.

Overall ASUS N90SV-A2 is a decent large format multimedia notebook, handling most modern games and HD video without any problem. It has great design with very good build quality, something that is becoming a common trend with ASUS notebooks these days. Feature selection is good, with the onboard Blu-ray player with this model, but the missing eSATA is a downside. While the price is high compared to similarly configured 17" notebooks, most online retailers are selling the lower model for $1,399, which drops the second hard drive and Blu-ray reader. With the 18.4" display this notebook could easily take the place of a small TV in a dorm room, playing HD movies and games in full 1080P resolution.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M: Die GeForce GT130M ist eine höhergetaktete 9650M GT welche jedoch einen etwas geringeren Stromverbrauch aufweist (dank 55nm). Je nach verbautem Speicher unterstützt unterstützt sie einen Takt von bis zu 600 MHz (DDR2) oder 1066 MHz (DDR3) und ist dadurch auch unterschiedlich schnell. PhysX wird nur in SLI Notebooks unterstützt.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

T9550: Der T9550 ist ein oberer Mittelklasse Dual-Core Prozessor und baugleich zum P9600 (welcher jedoch für lediglich 25W TDP spezifiziert ist). 18.4": 18 Zoll Displaygrösse gibt es erst seit 2008 für Desktop-Replacements. Es gibt nur wenige Notebooks, die einen größeren Display haben als 17 Zoll. Allerdings gibt es auch ein paar Laptop-Displays, die noch größer sind. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.
