Herausgekommen ist dank des äußerst konsequenten Kurses nicht mehr und nicht weniger als das bislang mit Abstand überzeugendste Ultrabook, das sich praktisch keine Schwachstelle mehr erlaubt.

One of our few concerns with the Zenbook was its edges as when we were working with it, we felt the edges of the palm rests could be a tad smoother. Considering how fantastic of an ultrabook this is, this is a concern we can easily overlook when you factor in just how much the Zenbook gets right. If you’re in the market for an ultrabook and can afford it, the Asus Zenbook UX31A should be high in your consideration list.

For anyone looking to get an ultrabook with a high quality display, it is tough to top when ASUS has to offer with the Zenbook Prime UX31A. The IPS panel offers great color and a resolution capable of 1080p video support. Performance is also quite strong but the storage performance is a bit below what the competition does have to offer.

All in all, both the Acer Zenbook Prime UX31A and the Acer Aspire S5 are premium 13.3 inch ultrabooks. In fact, they are some of the best you can get in this class, budget aside. The Acer does have a couple of tricks, like the thin and light body, classic looks, fast SSD and the unique MagicFlop port cover. Both overall the Asus Zenbook is the better pick in my eyes, as it not only looks and feels better, but it also bundles a better keyboard and display, plus lasts slightly longer on a charge. All those while going for basically the same price as the Acer right now.

Be in no doubt, the Asus remains a great all-round Ultrabook. The Full HD display is as good as they come, the design is simply gorgeous, and both performance and battery life are without fault. The issue is with the competition: with rival models also delivering solid all-round performance, if not the pixel-perfect display, for hundreds of pounds less, the Zenbook Prime UX31A looks to have priced itself out of the market before it's even got off the ground.

Priced at AED 6299, the ASUS Prime is definitely the Ultrabook that an enthusiast will be looking at. With it’s full-HD 1080p IPS panel, it offers a display unlike any other Ultrabook and combine that with the speedy Core i7 CPU and a decent battery life and you pretty much have a clear winner in the higher-end of Ultrabooks. The fan noise is a bit of a shame but that doesn’t stop me from awarding the UX31A with our Editor’s Choice award. If I was getting an Ultrabook- this would be it.

Das Asus Zenbook ist neben dem Macbook Air immer noch eines der bestaussehendsten Ultrabooks. Ursprünglich war der Preis des UX32 sein einziges Problem. Das 13-Zoll Modell war viel teurer als jedes andere Ultrabook. Mit dem neuen Mittelklasse Zenbook entschied Asus eine Kostprobe davon zu einem viel niedrigen Preis anzubieten.

Der gleiche Metallkörper weist ein Design mit konzentrischen Kreisen auf, womit das UX32A so gut aussieht wie das Original-Zenbook. Um den Preis zu senken, wurde die 256 GB SSD durch eine Hybrid-Lösung aus 500 GB Festplatte und 24 GB SSD ersetzt. Dadurch wird das neue Modell natürlich etwas dicker als der Vorgänger. Dennoch ist es immer noch bei weitem eines der schlankesten Ultrabooks am Markt. Aufgrund des dickeren Gehäuses konnten erfreulicherweise einige zusätzliche Schnittstellen untergebracht werden.

Die schnellen Boot-Zeiten und das schnelle Fortsetzen nach Sleep verdankt es der winzigen SSD, doch ein i3 Prozessors der älteren Sandy Bridge Plattform und damit ein älterer Grafikchip verlangsamen das billigere Modell. Da nicht die neue Hardware-Generation eingesetzt wird, ist es nicht einsichtig, warum jemand das UX32A unter anderern Ultrabooks der gleichen Preiskategorie wählen sollte. Wenn Aussehen ein wichtiges Argument ist, könnte das UX32A dienlich sein. Allerdings könnten selbst wenig technisch versierte Person ein Ultrabook mit einem i3 Prozessor ausschließen.

Intel HD Graphics 4000: In Ivy Bridge Prozessoren (3. Generation Core) integrierte Grafikkarte in höchster Ausbaustufe. Je nach Prozessor (ULV bis Desktop Quad-Core) unterschiedlich getaktet.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

13.3": 13 Zoll ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das verhältnismäßig kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten ein wenig anstrengend für die Augen ist. Sehr hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar. Nicht fehlsichtige Menschen sollten mit dieser Displaygröße aber zurechtkommen können.

76.75%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
