Online kostet das Asus VivoBook in der getesteten Ausstattung derzeit etwa 500 Euro. Zu diesem Preis erhalten Käufer ein auf den ersten Blick sehr gut verarbeitetes Notebook. Beim Rezensions-Gerät von netzwelt war allerdings das Trackpad nicht ganz passgenau eingebaut. Wer ein kompaktes Subnotebook für die tägliche Schreibarbeit benötigt und Windows 8 gerne mit einem Touchscreen nutzen möchte, findet derzeit kaum Alternativen in dieser Liga.

It is 30x20x1.5cm, it weights 1416grams. The 1.5cm thickness is maximum as at the front and back it is only 1cm thick. Finally months after its release I receive a small touch notebook designed for Windows 8. While the 11inch screen may be a little small for some the touch features work well as you will naturally sit with the screen well within reach.

The only real drawback of this model actually has little to do with ASUS. Of course, we’re talking about the operating system, which is far from polished. A bunch of bugs, blue screens, ill-optimised apps and illogical solutions have become Windows 8’s undeniable reality. Whether Microsoft will attempt to fix all these or leave the OS to its fate as they did with Vista remains to be seen.

The Asus is small but heavy, premium but with budget shortfalls - overall, it's a compromise for the price tag. We love the keyboard and design once open, but the lacklustre screen does disappoint. The Acer Aspire S3 is just one example which leaves us considering smaller, cheaper netbooks or budget ultrabooks over this Notebook which tries hard to bring Windows 8 skills at a budget price but falls at crucial hurdles - 3 hour battery life is poor and the weight is unappealing given the screen size. Great price is money is tight, though.

Wenig Licht und viel Schatten. Für einfache Office-Arbeiten, für das Anschauen von Videos, Musik hören und das Surfen im Netz eignet sich das VivoBook gut bis sehr gut. Aber schon bei etwas anspruchsvollerer Software kommt das Gerät aufgrund schwacher Hardwarekomponenten ins Stocken. Hinzu gesellt sich ein dunkles Display, das für den Außeneinsatz kaum geeignet ist.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Das Unternehmen hat weltweit 100.000 Angestellte, die meisten davon in China, wohin der Großteil der Produktion schon vor einiger Zeit ausgelagert wurde. Im Geschäftsbereich mit dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen Notebooks, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden. Asus betreibt Niederlassungen in Deutschland, Italien, Großbritannien, Frankreich, Spanien, Russland und den USA sowie ein europäisches Servicecenter in Tschechien. Mit dem Eee PC hat Asus 2008 den Netbook-Boom ausgelöst.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Intel HD Graphics 4000: In Ivy Bridge Prozessoren (3. Generation Core) integrierte Grafikkarte in höchster Ausbaustufe. Je nach Prozessor (ULV bis Desktop Quad-Core) unterschiedlich getaktet.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Intel HD Graphics oder GMA HD genannte onboard Grafikkarte welche im Package der Core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale Dual-Core Prozessoren untergebracht wird. Je nach Prozessormodell maximal mit 500 bis 766 MHz getaktet (Turbo Boost). Von Lenovo anscheinend auch GMA5700MHD genannt. Die gleichgenannte Intel HD Graphics Prozessorgrafik in den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren basiert auf einer neueren Architektur.

Intel HD Graphics 2000: In den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) von Intel  integrierte Grafikkarte. Die HD 2000 ist die schwächere, GT1 genannte, Variante mit 6 statt 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Dieses Subnotebook/Netbook gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt nur wenige Sub-Notebooks/Netbooks, die noch leichter sind. 10 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

1.6 kg:

Diese Subnotebook/Netbook ist deutlich leichter als der Durchschnitt aller Notebooks, und stellen eine mittlere Gewichtsklasse unter den Subnotebooks dar. 11 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

82.55%: Diese Bewertung muss man eigentlich als durchschnittlich ansehen, denn es gibt etwa ebenso viele Notebooks mit besseren Beurteilungen wie Schlechteren. Die Verbalbeurteilungen klingen aber oft besser als sie wirklich sind, denn richtig gelästert wird über Notebooks eher selten. Obwohl dieser Bereich offiziell meist einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, passt oft eher "mäßiger Durchschnitt".
