Wer sein mobiles Büro um einen Convertible-Tablet bereichern möchte kann getrost zum Latitude XT von Dell greifen. Für seine 2.100 Euro erhält man nicht nur einen soliden Business-Begleiter sondern auch ein großes Zubehörpaket. Neben Zusatzakku und Docking-Station erwartet euch eine robuste Tablet-Tasche. Anwendungen sind auf den Bereich Office und Internet ausgelegt und so wurde auch nur die dazu passende Hardware verbaut. Kleinere Grafikprogramme und Präsentationen lassen sich ebenfalls problemlos abspielen. Uns überzeugten die gute Verarbeitung und der schlichte Look. Auch die Outdoor-Tauglichkeit spricht für sich. Ein gut ausgeleuchtetes Display ließ uns auch bei starker Sonneneinstrahlung nicht im Stich. Passend dazu, die gute Akkulaufzeit von 250 Minuten mit Extra-Akku. Hier ist auch für längere Meetings genügend Power am Mann.

Auch wenn sich die von uns getesteten Tablet PCs bzw. Convertibles bisher in Grenzen halten (Lenovo Thinkpad X61T, Toshiba Portégé R400, M400, Asus R1F), das Dell Latitude XT konnte insgesamt überzeugen und macht auch klassischen Notebook Anwendern Appetit auf einen Umstieg von der Maus oder dem Touchpad zum Eingabestift, oder im Falle des Latitude XT einfach nur auf seinen Ziegefinger. Mit etwas Übung ist man auch ohne Maus bei Standardanwendungen sehr flott unterwegs und genießt darüber hinaus noch Vorteile wie etwa eine deutlich erhöhte Mobilität aufgrund der kompakten Abmessungen eines Tablets und der schnellen Eingabe von handschriftlichen Notizen und Skizzen wie sie bei einem klassischen Notebook nicht möglich wären.

The Latitude XT is a solid tablet with a great display. It is very expensive though. Many users complained about the price and Dell says it is targeted toward the business market not consumers. This may be true, but it still seems a bit pricey for the business market as well. The XT can compete with Toshiba's M700 or even Lenovo's X61. Yes, the N-trig, dual touch technology is a huge plus and taking notes and using your finger are almost flawless, but the price is way above its competitors. The XT comes with a nice array of ports and has plenty of optional accessories. The slice battery gives it all day power and the MediaBase gives you an optical drive and more ports then I could ever use. It seems Dell is already talking about updating the XT by November 2008 as well, so I guess we will see what the XT2 has to offer.

Die Kaufempfehlung geht schließlich an unseren ersten Prüfling: Das Hewlett-Packard Elitebook 2730p überzeugte im Test mit einer sehr guten Verarbeitung mitsamt hochwertigen Materialien, der besten Akku-Laufzeit, einem hellen Display mit weiten Blickwinkeln, einem flinken Prozessor und einer sinnvollen Ausstattung inklusive UMTS-Modul. Der Touchscreen funktionierte gut und zuverlässig, subjektiv hat hier allerdings Lenovo die Nase vorn. Kritikpunkte gibt es aber auch bei HPs Tablet-PC: So hat dieses Notebook nur zwei USB-Ports, und das Trackpad fällt recht klein aus

Dells Latitude-Reihe richtet sich an mittlere bis große Unternehmen. Das Latitude XT2 als Tablet soll dabei eine Nische füllen, die die weniger flexiblen und größeren Geschwistermodelle nicht abdecken können. Unterm Strich bleibt das Gefühl, dass Dell mit dem Latitude XT2 und wohl speziell mit unserem Testgerät hinter seinen Möglichkeiten zurückgeblieben ist. Aufgrund der beschriebenen Einschränkungen und Schwächen sowie der Aufpreispolitik fällt es schwer, Dells Tablet-Notebook zu empfehlen - gerade weil HPs Elitebook 2730p im direkten Vergleich vieles besser macht.

Das Dell Latitude XT2 ist mit der Convertible-Funktion ein interessantes Notebook. Vor allem Nutzer, welche an herkömmlichen Benutzerschnittstellen zum Scheitern verurteilt sind, können dank dem sehr gut arbeitenden Touchscreen aufatmen. Die Leistung von Prozessor und Festplatte ist mit üblichen 12-Zoll Notebooks vergleichbar. Wir hätten eine, ansatzweise multimediataugliche, Grafiklösung als Anwenderfreundlicher empfunden als den Grafikchip von Intel. Aber somit bleibt das Latitude XT2 immerhin angenehm leise und kühl.

The XT2 XFR obviously has a very niche market, but aside from its touch capabilities temporarily ceasing after its spell in the freezer, it appears as rugged as Dell claims it to be. Of course, all that protection comes at a price, but it is in line with the competition, most notably Panasonic’s Toughbook CF-19. It would be nice if it were a bit lighter, especially since it’s designed to be used in the hands, but overall it’s a decent ruggedised tablet-style laptop.

Dell's second stab at a convertible Tablet PC is a superb machine which brings finger-tap support to the screen and, perhaps in a more headline-grabbing move, adds multi-touch support for good measure. The Dell Latitude XT2 packs some of the latest touch technologies in an extremely well built and good looking chassis. Build quality is above and beyond even similar Latitude series notebooks, with a very rugged chassis. The keyboard is comfortable to type on and feels almost better than the legendary ThinkPad keyboard. System performance would get a significant boost with a faster drive since the 1.8" model gets an average transfer speed of 28MB/s while most SSDs of the same size would be above 100MB/s. Overall, if you are looking for a very portable tablet designed to hold up to the rigors of daily business use, the Dell Latitude XT2 is a clear winner. The only big downside to this model is the high price tag and lower battery life, but if you can live with those it is hard to find a superior model.

In Deutschland liegt Dell mit einem Marktanteil von 13,2 % derzeit auf Platz drei. Dell erzielte 2007 einen Umsatz von 61 Milliarden US-Dollar und beschäftigt etwa 80.000 Mitarbeiter weltweit. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Im GL40 oder GS40 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Technisch eine geringer getaktete GMA 4500MHD (400 MHz versus 533) und durch den geringeren Takt auch kein BlueRay Logo Support.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

U7600: Die U-Varianten verbrauchen maximal 11.9 Watt und stehen für "Ultra Low Voltage".
