For everyone else, I believe the XPS 13 can be a solid option if you need a compact, well built and fast computer for everyday activities. It’s not without rivals, and I’m looking here and the Acer Aspire S7-393 and even the Core M Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and Asus Zenbook UX305, plus the other devices that will be released in the future, including that rumored 12 inch Macbook Air. But it should face them all head-high.

This model with its 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and QHD+ touchscreen costs $1,400. If that’s too rich, Dell really takes a shot at Apple with its base model. Those with the cash would do better to invest in the more expensive QHD+ touchscreen model. If you’re not dead set on getting a proper laptop, there are also a number of convertibles at the same price point, like the Surface Pro 4, that are also worth a look.

Like the Surface Studio, the XPS 27 folds almost flat, like a designer's easel. It's debatable how much of an advantage that is unless you make heavy use of a stylus, but it certainly delivers more flexibility than anything Apple's iMacs offer.

And some may be turned off by the dearth of ports and how warm the bottom can get. In this price range I prefer the MacBook Air M2 for its much longer battery life, more ports and less fussy touchpad. But overall the XPS 13 Plus is a good option if you prefer Windows. In addition, with only two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports available on this machine, some users may find this laptop's IO expansion options to be too limited.
