GRID Autosport Benchmarks

Vollgas. Rennspiel-Experte Codemasters orientiert sich am Fortsetzungstrend und bringt jedes Jahr mindestens ein Hochglanzprodukt auf den Markt. Der brandneue Ableger, GRID Autosport, soll sich nicht zuletzt durch einen dicken Umfang und einen hohen Abwechslungsreichtum auszeichnen. Unser Artikel richtet sich insbesondere an Notebook-Nutzer, die wissen möchten, wie viele Pferdestärken für ein ordentliches Spielerlebnis nötig sind.

Technik

GRID Autosport basiert auf der eigens von Codemasters entwickelten EGO-Engine (inzwischen Version 3), die im Lauf der Jahre immer weiter verbessert und optimiert wurde. Zwar sind auf den ersten Blick kaum Änderungen zur letzten Generation erkennbar (GRID 2 hat sehr ähnliche Hardware-Anforderungen), angesichts der guten Gesamtoptik muss sich Autosport aber nicht hinter der Konkurrenz verstecken.

Neben den Texturen und den Licht- respektive Schatteneffekten können auch die Fahrzeugmodelle größtenteils an das 2013 veröffentlichte Need for Speed Rivals heranreichen, wobei hier und da noch Luft nach oben wäre.

Der markanteste Pluspunkt von GRID Autosport ist das üppige Grafikmenü. Während bei Need for Speed Rivals nur eine Handvoll Optionen verfügbar sind, bietet das Codemasters-Pendant im erweiterten Qualitätsmenü über 20 Stellschrauben, die eine individuelle Anpassung erlauben. Hinzu kommen fünf Presets (Ultra Low bis Ultra) sowie mehrere Kantenglättungsvarianten. Neben CMAA und MSAA unterstützt GRID Autosport auch (Q)CSAA und EQAA. Letztere Modi bleiben jedoch Nvidia bzw. AMD vorbehalten.

Top: Da sich alle Grafikoptionen »on-the-fly« ändern lassen, muss das Spiel nicht jedes Mal neu gestartet werden. Etwas ärgerlich finden wir hingegen, dass die Menüs – wie man es in der Vergangenheit schon öfters gesehen hat – recht verschachtelt und damit unkomfortabel zu bedienen sind.

Abgesehen von einigen nicht reproduzierbaren Abstürzen und »Freezes«, die bei mehreren Systemen auftraten, macht die Technik eine passable Figur. Im Gegensatz zu F1 2013 haben AMD Notebooks wohl keine Startprobleme.

Für einen Titel aus dem Jahr 2014 sind die Hardware-Voraussetzungen nicht besonders hoch. Trotz der dezent aufgehübschten Optik läuft Autosport in minimalen Settings flüssiger als GRID 2. Obwohl hohe Einstellungen ein gewisses Maß an Power erfordern, würden wir die Engine nicht als Ressourcenfresser bezeichnen.

Neben einer Mittelklasse-GPU reicht bereits ein Dual-Core-Prozessor für ansehnliche Rennstrecken. Wenn es nach Intel geht, bringt ein Quad-Core nur in niedrigen Settings Vorteile (man vergleiche die Ergebnisse der GT 750M und GTX 850M). Lediglich bei sehr potenten Grafikchips kann sich die CPU auch in höheren Stufen als limitierender Faktor erweisen.

Benchmark

Wie die vorherigen Codemasters-Produktionen enthält auch GRID Autosport einen integrierten Benchmark, der direkt über das Grafikmenü zugänglich ist. Die KI fährt dabei selbstständig eine Runde auf dem Grand-Prix-Kurs San Francisco, was knapp 2,5 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt.

Aufgrund des variierenden Ablaufs (Platzierung, Dauer...) sind die Resultate von Durchgang zu Durchgang nicht ganz konstant. Unsere Wiederholungs-Benchmarks zeigten eine Abweichung von bis zu 15 %. Entsprechend passiert es hin und wieder, dass sich GPUs vor eigentlich stärkeren Modellen einordnen.

Resultate

Dank dem Support von AMD und Nvidia konnten wir unseren Grafikkarten-Bestand um ein paar aktuelle Desktop-Vertreter erweitern. Mit einer Bildwiederholrate von 123 fps zieht die GeForce GTX 780 Ti im Ultra-Setting an allen Single-Chip-Notebooks vorbei. Die Leistung der kräftigsten mobilen GPU tendiert eher zur Desktop-Mitte. Rund 77 fps, welche die GeForce GTX 880M im Schnitt erreicht, liegen etwa auf dem Niveau der 200-300 Euro teuren GeForce GTX 760 (73 fps @ Ultra). Insgesamt werden die maximalen Grafikoptionen schon von einer GeForce GTX 860M ruckelfrei dargestellt (egal, ob Kepler oder Maxwell).

Wenn man auf vierfaches MSAA verzichtet, genügt für 1.920 x 1.080 Bildpunkte ein typisches Allround-Notebook. Selbst mit der DDR3-Version der GeForce GT 750M sind es knapp über 40 fps. Das normale Preset und 1.366 x 768 Pixel packen sogar Low-End-Chips ab der Intel HD Graphics 4600. (Sehr) niedrige Details müssen sich Spieler nur bei extrem alten und/oder schwachen GPUs antun.

Hinweis: Der integrierte Benchmark ist momentan nicht dazu in der Lage unter 12,5 fps zu messen.
