There's no denying that the Gigabyte Booktop M1022 is a creative take on the heavily saturated netbook market. The ability to turn the Booktop into a nettop with just a simple dock is quite brilliant, and allows users to quickly turn the Booktop into a light computing machine for the home or quickly take their data with them on the go. Inevitably, the Gigabyte Booktop M1022 is not going to be able to match up against full-fledged nettops, so that means its use as a nettop is limited other providing a more user friendly experience. Hence, don't expect it to be able to double up as a HTPC - you'll need an ION-equipped system for that.

Part laptop and part nettop, the Gigabyte Booktop M1022M is the first netbook we’ve seen that overcomes the ‘3 USB problem'. We don't think you'd want to take the dock with you - it's an odd shape and doesn't pack neatly - but if you're after a light and portable device that can also be used with a big screen monitor at home for more comfortable content consumption, the Booktop fits the bill.

The Gigabyte Booktop M1022 is a 10-inch netbook with a twist. It comes with a docking station that allows you to connect a keyboard and monitor. The idea being that you can use it as a desktop at home and then take it out of its dock when on the move. Slashgear has posted the first proper review we’ve seen of the Booktop and their impressions were favourable.

The Booktop M1022 only starts to make sense when you drop your expectations of notebooks that come with docking stations.  Rather than allowing desktop use of a powerful mobile computer, the Gigabyte permits more comfortable use of a niche product.  If you’ve considered a netbook but lamented the sub-sized keyboard and display, or a nettop but can’t bring yourself to sacrifice portability, then the M1022 offers the best of both.  You’ll have to pay for the privilege – importer Mobilx.hu, who generously loaned us our review unit, have the Gigabyte Booktop M1022 listed for $470 (excluding VAT) or €331 (excluding VAT), on top of which you can add integrated 3G – since the Booktop comes in a little more expensive than your average bargain-basement netbook, but the flexibility, build quality and battery life are all one step above rivals.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Integrierter (onboard) Grafikchip auf Mobile Intel 945GM/C/Z/ME/ML Chipsätzen und Nachfolger des GMA 900. Kein Hardware T&L (für manche Spiele benötigt). Für Spiele kaum geeignet.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N280: Typischer Netbook Prozessor und durch die geringe Leistung nur für Office, Web und andere einfache Applikationen sinnvoll einsetzbar. Im Vergleich zum N270 nur minimal höher getaktet, jedoch mit schnellerem FSB. 10.1": Es handelt sich um ein kleines Displayformat für Subnotebooks bzw. sind 10 Zoll das Standardformat für Netbooks. Der Vorteil der Mini-Notebooks liegt darin, dass das Gerät klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das vergleichsweise kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten relativ anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar wegen zu kleiner Schrift- und Icongröße.

1.3 kg: Dieses Subnotebook/Netbook gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt nur wenige Sub-Notebooks/Netbooks, die noch leichter sind. 10 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

Gigabyte: Gigabyte Technology ist ein taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computerhardware, der vor allem für seine Mainboards und Grafikkarten bekannt ist. Das 1986 gegründete Unternehmen hat über 6000 Mitarbeiter. Weitere Produkte Gigabytes sind Computergehäuse, PC-Netzteile, Kühler, Monitore, Tastaturen, Lautsprecher, Server, Laptops und Desktop-PCs. Notebook-Tests für Gigabyte Notebooks sind selten.

80%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
