Nexus 7 (2013) vs Nexus 7 (2012) head–to–head review
Quelle: V3.co.uk Englisch EN→DE
Having won five of our six categories, we have to say the 2013 Nexus 7 is a serious upgrade. The 2013 model features a more luxurious design, a more powerful processor, double the memory of the 2012 model and, to top it all off, one of the best displays we've ever used. That said, it's worth noting the 2012 Nexus 7 is still a very good device in its own right and it meets all the requirements for most tablet users. For this reason, while the 2013 Nexus 7 is a better device, early adopters who bought the 2012 model should consider whether they really need the added power before upgrading.

As the recent Nexus 7 rumors suggested, BestBuy claims to start selling Nexus 7 on Tuesday July 30th, followed by Staples the next day. The WiFi 16GB model will cost you $230, and for $270 you’ll get 32GB version. There have been many improvements in Nexus 7 tablet this year and the $30 extra charge for fast performing 7 inch tablet is, at least in my opinion, well justified.

The market for 7-inch Android tablets is flooded with dozens of inexpensive devices that cost less than $200. Some of these slates are very good, too, such as the $149 ASUS MeMo Pad 7. But the new Google Nexus 7 tablet is well worth the slight splurge.

The 7-inch market has been criminally under-served since the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab (Kindle Fire and Fire HD excepted), so being able to choose something that isn't a a new iPad was warmly welcomed when it was announced - and it's been so successful that Apple had to crank out its own version. The Nexus 7 is astounding value for money. If you're on a budget this is the tablet to buy and, even if you're not, it's well worth considering, as its specs and performance make it competitive with tablets twice the price.

The Nexus 7 remains the best option for those on a budget - £159 is a steal. Apple's iPad mini is also a great device with a lot to like if you want to spend the extra money. While the Galaxy Note 8.0 is the most expensive (we await the cellular model price), you have to remember it's a phone and tablet in one device.

In short, if you're in the market for a regular Android tablet, the Nexus 7 remains the one to go for. The OS update has cemented the device's appeal, and storage space has doubled since our original review, too, so it's better value than ever. There's also now a 3G model available at a tempting £239, which can serve as a true on-the-go companion.

If you want a tablet with which to actually do things, the Nexus 7 is the only option here. The other two are consumption devices - designed to be used to enjoy music, movies, games and books, as well as email, social media and web browsing. The Nexus 7 also offers greater variety in the places from which you can source media. But it is not nearly as easy to use as the other two. If you want a simple to use device with which to entertain yourself, you can't go wrong with the Kindle Fire HD and Nook HD. And the greater content available for the Kindle pushes us in that direction.

Overall winner: Nexus 7 Having put all three devices to the test, we have to say the clear loser is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Boasting average performance and grating software, the tablet doesn't live up to the standards set by its iPad Mini and Nexus 7 competition, even if it is cheap. That said for new users not embedded within any ecosystem, we have to say the Nexus 7 does offer better value for money, costing £100 less than the iPad Mini while boasting better performance, albeit with slightly less solid build quality.

Overall, we’d say the winner from our initial impressions is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Even though Apple has the gorgeous design and user-friendly OS, and we’re sure the performance will be super speedy like its current iPhones and iPads, the price just doesn’t add up. Paying another £110 on top of the Kindle Fire HD’s price tag for a device that offers the same storage and high quality screen is a tough sell.

The best compliment is to say that it feels like a tablet, which could also cost twice the amount and I do not feel that I am exaggerating now. A great display coupled with the low price range for the really solid performance and best-ever Android OS, which puts all other times right in the shadow version — it’s worth it.

The Google Nexus 7 is currently selling for AED 1,200 for an 8GB unit which is a bit on the higher side considering that same unit sells for US$200 (AED 740.) At US$200, the Nexus 7 is a steal if you are ok with a small 7” sized tablet and is, without doubt, the best tablet to get. However,at AED 1,200, it is much closer to the iPad 2 which is currently selling for around AED 1,500 and with a larger screen and more tablet like interface, I think is a better buy.

The hardware inside is great and provides a great user experience in conjunction with Android 4.1. The fit and finish of the Nexus 7 is also well done, but we expected that as it was built by ASUS and they have a ton of experience making tablets. We wish it had expandable storage and a rear-facing camera, but after using it a few days you forgot about those short comings.

Admittedly, the Nexus 7 needs a 3G version for true data portability, an absence which might deter some. Likewise, it can't match the media choices of Apple or Amazon and it won’t give the massive battery life of an e-ink reader either. Even so, the Nexus is good enough to make it a logical choice for anyone thinking about a smaller tablet for reading or watching video while out and about, and it's a steal at the price.

As strange as it might sound, my favorite Android tablet has long been an HP TouchPad running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (CyanogenMod 9). Until now, at least. While I still had hoped for more from Google with its first Nexus tablet, I am at least content with what it provided. Google succeeds at shooting Amazon's Kindle Fire out of the sky; the company has delivered a superior piece of hardware at the same starting price. The Nexus 7 also beats out the same-priced Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (an Android 4.0 tablet with lesser performance and half the storage, but with a MicroSD card slot), and it beats out Barnes & Noble's limited Nook Tablet (which adds a MicroSD slot, but is restricted by B&N's custom Android version and the apps approved for it). I like the feel and design of the Toshiba Excite 7.7 better, but that model costs twice as much as the 16GB Nexus 7. Google hasn't positioned the Nexus as an iPad killer, but it's worth noting that the Nexus's price is a 38 percent savings over the cost of getting a larger-screen, same-size iPad 2, and a 50 percent savings over a third-generation iPad.

Whether you plump for the Surface Pro 3 or Nexus 10 really depends on what you intend to do with it. One makes a pretty good makeshift laptop, while the other is still one of the best tablets you can buy but is all but useless for getting work done. As a hybrid device with a large screen and good performance the Surface Pro 3 could prove its worth as a work laptop for many people, although it couldn't meet my specific needs in this regard. And neither would I want it to. For the things I want from a tablet - the ability to get online, watch video, use social media and so on - the more portable, significantly cheaper Nexus 10 with its higher-resolution screen is the better choice.

Summing up the battle of the flagship tablets, the Apple iPad 4 manages to win out by triumphing in three out of the six categories over its rivals. Apple's tablet trumped the Surface Pro and Nexus 10 as our favourite for design and display, and proving the best out of the bunch for battery life. Despite winning half the categories, the Apple iPad 4 failed to win the major battles of performance and software, losing out to the Surface Pro due to its ability to run the full version of Windows 8. However, we felt Microsoft's tablet failed to deliver on too many occasions, such as in design and display to warrant a win over Apple's high-class device.

The Google Nexus 10 is clearly a brilliant tablet. It has high-end specs at a mid-range price, and that alone makes it deserving of attention. Add to that a generally stunning screen and near faultless performance and it really does start to look like an iPad beater. But after spending some time with it we can't quite be as enthusiastic as we'd like. The lack of expandable storage combined with the fairly limited internal storage really hampers its media capabilities. Since tablets are for most people a media-centric device that's a real issue and the single biggest problem with the Google Nexus 10, along with the screen offering slightly muted colours and contrast ratios.

It’s likely most big developers will fall over themselves to get their apps looking right on the Nexus 10, because this is the benchmark 10in Android tablet. The screen is superb, performance swift, and the price remarkable. The extra features of Android 4.2 are valuable, too. We won’t be promoting it to the top of the A-List above the iPad just yet, though. It isn’t quite polished enough, and the iPad’s library of tablet-specific apps means it just about holds the edge. The Google Nexus 10 is an incredibly well built tablet with a bargain, price thanks to the hit Google are prepared to talk in order to attract customers to it's Android Play store. This makes it a bit of an unfair fight from the off, as although the two tablet's RRPs are not a million miles from each other, if Google wasn't subsidising part of the cost there really would be a big gap. So it's a bit of a no-brainer to suggest buying the Nexus 10 if you can afford it.

Google Nexus 10 vs Apple iPad 2 comparison review
Quelle: PC Advisor Englisch EN→DE
That the Nexus 10 is only £10 more than the iPad 2 is, on the face of it, outrageously good value. The Nexus is brand new, has an unsurpassed display, and offers the best all-round performance of any tablet around. The iPad 2 remains on sale to give Apple fans a lower-priced alternative to the full-specced iPad. But there are reasons for this situation. The Nexus 10 is heavily subsidised by Google as a means of getting people to use Android and - critically - buy apps and media from Google Play. Were Samsung to make and sell it on its own terms its likely the price would be nearer that of the Galaxy Note 10.1 - nearly twice as much. That doesn't stop it being a good deal of course. That said the iPad 2 remains a good deal. The combination of Nexus 10 and Android 4.2 alone offer a similarly high quality experience as Apple's iPad. So for those who just have to have Apple tech, but cannot afford the iPad 4, the iPad 2 is a decent point of entry.

The Note 10.1 is an interesting and useful tablet. It's S-Pen offers creative options that make it unique amongst today's breed of tablets. It is reasonably priced and performs well. But the Nexus 10 is a game changer: the first tablet that can outperform the iPad, and priced to shift. It's just a shame it is tough to get hold of.

Apple iPad vs Microsoft Surface RT vs Google Nexus 10 head to head review
Quelle: V3.co.uk Englisch EN→DE
Despite very stiff competition from its new rivals, the Apple iPad retains its crown as top 10in tablet, boasting a compelling complete ecosystem offering, a decent - albeit not on a par with the Nexus 10's - screen, fast performance and excellent battery life. However, we should point out that for those looking for a full-on laptop replacement, the Surface RT is currently the only valid option, featuring support for Microsoft's email and a full version of Office 2013. The only downside of this is that people wanting to use the Surface in this way will have to buy its Touch Cover keyboard add-on, which adds an extra £80 to the device's cost.

Having thoroughly tested the Nexus 10, we have to say we are very impressed. Despite packing a dual-core processor the tablet is more than powerful enough, easily matching the performance of its chief competitor the Apple iPad. Add to this the host of new features included on its Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, beautifully crisp screen and sleek design, and we can't sing the tablet's praises enough. For this reason, while we're not convinced it'll win over many users already embedded in the Apple eco-system, we'd fully recommend the Nexus 10 to any Android fan or new tablet buyer.

This is a powerful, effective tablet, especially if you want it for media consumption. It’s great for watching movies, listening to music and playing games, with the screen resolution looking particularly smart and the front speakers beating other tablets easily. The fast processor and 2GB of RAM ensure the tablet rarely slows down either. Does it kill the iPad? Not really, due to Apple’s iOS ease of use and plentiful supply of high-quality apps... but it comes close.

Still, that hasn’t proved a major stumbling block for the iPad with Retina display, and we imagine it will be a similar story here. It’s likely most big developers will fall over themselves to get their apps looking right on the Nexus 10, because this is now the benchmark 10in Android tablet. The screen is superb, performance swift, and the price nothing short of remarkable. The extra features of Android 4.2 are valuable, too. We won’t be promoting it to the top of the A-List above the iPad just yet, though. It isn’t quite polished enough, and the iPad’s huge library of tablet-specific apps means it just about holds the edge. But the gap is narrower than it’s ever been.

Apple's fourth-generation iPad ($499-$829), is our top choice for large-screen tablets. While the iPad and Nexus 10 share similar specs, the iPad's solid reliability and huge library of well-designed tablet apps win the day. While Android is doing well with 7-inch tablets like the Editors' Choice Google Nexus 7, for the OS to succeed on 10-inch tablets, Google really needs to give users better guidance on how to find apps that take advantage of the screen space here.

There’s no doubt about it, the Google Nexus 10 is a fantastic tablet that challenges – and in the case of the 300ppi display beats - the iPad in almost every department. Google has produced a genuine contender that’s slim, light and tactile; fast, effortlessly easy to use and a joy to play with. The screen is a sensation and deserves the plaudits, but the Nexus 10 isn’t perfect…yet. It gets pretty close – especially when you fully embrace Jelly Bean 4.2 – but until Google Play is furnished with more than a handful of 10-inch specific apps the iPad and its choice of 275,000 wins the battle.

There’s no denying that Samsung and Google have put together an impressively specified tablet in the Nexus 10. If you want a tablet for basic things like email, web, gaming and apps, this is the best option for now. It is both cheaper and better than most of the competition. There are a few exceptions: if you want a stylus, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a better alternative, and if you need Microsoft Office compatibility, the Microsoft Surface RT would be better. The Nexus 4 was our phone of last year. A game-changing super cheap but premium smartphone that offered great features, build and performance at a stunning price. Here we pit the Nexus 4 against Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 is a brilliant phone - although it's not without flaws. Here we compare the Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S4, feature by feature. The Samsung often comes out on top, but remember that the Nexus 4 is significantly cheaper to buy outright. In fact, it remains an absolute steal at just £239, where the Galaxy S4 is a not unreasonable £450-£500.

Like the Nexus 10, the Nexus 4 is another class leader. Google have combined a refreshed version of their operating system with a well designed, powerful phone that’s more cost-effective than anything else on the market. The Nexus 4 goes head-to-head with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5, and while it might lose out in some areas such as slimness and storage options, its £239 price more than makes up for its few shortcomings.

Google Nexus 7 2013

If you're looking for a 7-inch tablet, I'll put it like this: there is no better alternative on the market, right now. And be aware of that qualification, because markets change very quickly. The Nexus 7 is one of the best Android tablets available in the Indian market in terms of the overall user experience and build quality. However, its graphical performance was mediocre, and we did experience odd lags while playing heavy graphics games. Apart from this, the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet handled everything we threw at it with a degree of ease. If we had to mention other downsides to Nexus 7's complete package, they would be that the device tended to gobble up battery life quickly, and the limited storage (26GB user available). Our advice for power users will be to stay not too far from a charging point, as the Nexus 7 tablet tends to get below 40 percent battery within a few hours, which is disheartening.

The Google Nexus 7 2013 costs £199 directly from Google for the 16GB, Wi-Fi only edition. That's £40 more than the previous model, but we feel the increase is justified based on the increased performance, sleeker design and vastly improved display. It's feels like a top-end device now, one which holds up well in comparison to the more expensive iPad Mini, and is very much deserving of our Best Buy award. If you're on a tighter budget, the £130 Asus MemoPad HD 7 carries on where the original Nexus 7 left off, but right now this is the best 7in Android tablet around.

The 32GB LTE model is priced at Rs 27,999, which feels a bit expensive for a 7-inch Android tablet. However, when you compare it to Apple’s iPad mini with Retina at the same price, the LTE Nexus 7 offers better value as you get double the storage and LTE data too. Given these tablets were only just introduced into the market, the prices should drop in a couple of months. If you don’t need 3G, then the Wi-Fi only version is also a good pick as prices start at Rs 20,999. Compared to the 2012 Nexus 7, the new version has notable changes but honestly, the price difference does seem a lot. If it’s just gaming and casual web browsing you’re after, then then the old Nexus 7 is still a bargain for the price it’s retailing at. However, if reading eBooks and watching videos is something you do a lot, the new Nexus 7 is worth the premium.

The Kindle Fire HDX. It wins on the strength of its superior interface and software/content, though it excels in other matters, too. I found myself using the Fire HDX more often than the Nexus 7 to watch movies and to read on the train ride home. Its smaller size and convenient content carousel help guide you to exactly what you’re most likely to use a tablet for, without having to sift through a library of apps or spend hours setting it up. The HDX is also a keen choice for technologically challenged family members, as it offers better out-of-the-box functionality.

In every single measurable way the new model is a big step forward from the old, being smaller, lighter, more powerful and possessed of a much improved display. Despite one single niggle - there’s still no physical storage expansion - the Nexus 7 still easily deserves the title of the Best Tablet in the World.

What you get for that premium, however, is a superlative piece of hardware. It’s the fastest, lightest, thinnest, narrowest, highest-DPI compact Android tablet – and because it’s a Nexus, you know the OS will be supported for the foreseeable future, while not getting bogged down by third-party “enhancements”. If you want a cheap and capable tablet, the Nook HD is still a tremendously tempting bargain. If you’re in the market for something more elegant, more capable and more future-proof, however, the new Nexus 7 is more or less irresistible.

Summing up, we have to say we're impressed with the new Nexus 7. While it's not a milestone moment in Android's history in the same way its predecessor was, Google and Asus have made the right changes. Featuring improved performance, a new rear camera, amazing display and completely reworked design, the Nexus 7 2013 is currently the best tablet in its size and price bracket. In fact our only criticism is that, being released just one year after the first Nexus 7, which has also been upgraded to Android 4.3, individuals or firms that invested in the original own-brand Google tablet may not find enough vitally new features to justify upgrading. That said, for new users looking to try out an Android tablet, we couldn't recommend the new Nexus 7 enough.

The somewhat half-hearted approach to tablet optimisation is a shame and a bit of an issue for the Google Nexus 7, and it's something that holds it back against the iPad Mini. Apple's little tab has endless apps tailored for its screen, and the squatter ratio and extra 0.9in make it more suitable for interaction and creating content.

I can’t help but feel a little trepidation. The previous-generation Nexus 7 had quite a few issues to contend with after its update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. If I let the battery die, the tablet wouldn’t turn on without a hard reset, and the tablet became buggier and slower to use over time. I hope this new Nexus 7 won’t suffer from those foibles—because if history repeats itself, Google will have to do much more next time around to rid us of our bad memories. The second-generation Nexus 7 offers strong features at an affordable price. If you’re a seasoned tablet user, whether you should buy this tablet will depend primarily on whether you are tied to Google’s ecosystem. Still, this particular device can hold its own against any other 7-inch tablet currently available. At the moment, it has some of the best specs, a bright screen, and a few other little goodies—and it’s hardly a splurge. If you’re in the market for a 7-inch Android device, this is the one to get.

Google Nexus 5

90% Google Nexus 5 review: Still a good choice despite the Nexus 6
Quelle: PC Advisor Englisch EN→DE
If you're reading this review and thinking about getting a Nexus 5 then hold your horses. Google has just announced the Nexus 6 (alongside the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player) as its successor. It's made by Motorola and is very similar to the Moto X 2014. However, it's not necessarily a natural upgrade, mainly because it's got a huge 5.9in screen and is supposedly going to cost a lot more than the Nexus 5. We're waiting for a price. See what's changed in our Nexus 5 vs Nexus 6 comparison.

Having won six rounds to the Nexus 5's two, the Galaxy S5 is the clear winner. Featuring a more robust design, superior performance, better camera and clearer display, the Galaxy S5 outperforms the Nexus 5 in almost every way. However, with the Nexus 5 already halfway through its lifecycle as a flagship smartphone and costing close to half the price of the Galaxy S5, the Google handset does present far better value for money and is still a solid choice for any buyer on a budget.

HTC One M8 vs Google Nexus 5 comparison review: which is the best Android smartphone?
Quelle: PC Advisor Englisch EN→DE
As we noted when we originally reviewed the Nexus 5, it has the specifications to rival flagship Android phones, but at a much lower price. For a shade under £300, you get a great smartphone with only a few compromises. One is the plastic body, another is the lack of expandable storage. The HTC One M8 may have an aluminium shell (and a choice of three colours) and feel much more like a premium phone, but you'll also pay for the privilege: £550 if you buy it outright with no contract.

The Nexus 5 is a superb smartphone: we like the design; it’s as powerful as they come; the screen is great; it runs the latest version of Android; and the camera – although a weak point – is capable of producing good snaps and video if you’re patient. It’s the price, however, that swings things in favour of this Android handset. At $399 for the 16GB version, and $449 for the 32GB one, it undercuts its rivals significantly. That, coupled with its all-round capabilities, help to push the Nexus 5 to the top of the PC&TA A-List.

The Nexus 5 is a screaming deal. The Google Play Editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are no longer easy to recommend, because they cost $300 and $250 more, respectively; while they're both getting Android 4.4 KitKat very soon, they're still much more expensive, and the Nexus 5 neatly splits the size difference between the HTC One's smaller display and the Galaxy S4's wider and more difficult to hold form factor. The Nexus 5 has a faster GPU than both of them as well. But in the end, it's Nexus 5's subsidized price that's impossible to beat.

With a €349 ($349 US) to €399 ($399 US) price depending on the region, it is a very attractive package at a fair price. Although the issues we take with the Nexus 5 are considerable, they're not enough to keep us from recommending this device. One of the issues we have, which is the lackluster camera, might be resolved with a software fix. And even if it were a minor fix, it's not so bad that you'll never be able to take good photos with it. It may not have the tremendous battery life of the LG G2, or the cameras you'd find in the iPhone 5S or Lumia 1020, or the build quality of the iPhone or HTC One, but you're not going to be sacrificing much with what you're paying for the device.

This isn’t the only smartphone that Android will be rolling with this upcoming season, but it’s arguably the best. The Nexus 4 found its way into more than one SlashGear writer’s pocket, and it’s a device that has stood the test of time since launch for many of the same reasons that the Nexus 5 prevails: price, quality hardware, and the promise of software updates direct from Google. The potential for just such an update is, if previous Nexus devices are anything to go by, a possibility we’d bet on. In fact, with at least as much Google software support and community – whether developer, friendly hacker, or accessory maker – support as was given to the Nexus 4, it’s easy to see the Nexus 5 having massive potential for success. It’ll be interesting to see how well the Nexus line continues to compete with the carrier-subsidized smartphone world, but in the off-contract environment, the Nexus 5 simply has no equal.

The Nexus range has taken a real step forward here. The Nexus 4 was a great option for those that don't want to spend a lot, but the handset really began to creak after too long. The Nexus 5, while a little later in the year compared to the other top-end handsets, seems to be a lot more bullet-proof in terms of being able to carry on chugging for a couple of years. And what's better is that this will cost very little to buy directly from Google, meaning many will be able to snap this up and go on a rolling SIM-only deal to give freedom to upgrade when they want.

Watching movies on the N6 is a treat, with loud, front-facing stereo speakers and a Quad HD display.

If clothes make the man, operating systems make the phone. On its own, the Google Nexus 6 is a great flagship phone with a formidable Snapdragon 805 CPU, vibrant Quad HD screen and jaw-dropping audio quality. However, Android 5.0 (Lollipop) makes the Nexus 6 sing. The new Material Design is not only cosmetically pleasing, but also highly functional.

The death of the Google Nexus program has been greatly exaggerated, and this year's stock Android phone ironically resulted in an exaggerated Moto X. Its tremendous display, premium specs and debut of Android 5.0 Lollipop make one of the best phablets to date.

Hands on: Getting to know Google's new Nexus 6
Quelle: Computerworld.com Englisch EN→DE
I'll be living with the Motorola-made Nexus 6 for a while (just as soon as I finish up with its smaller but no less powerful cousin, the also-Moto-made Droid Turbo). The phone doesn't have a firm launch date yet -- Google says it'll become available sometime in November ($649 to $699 unlocked or for a lower up-front price if bought on contract from a carrier) -- so we've got plenty of time to get to know it inside and out.

Motorola's contribution to the Nexus - and to Android 5.0 Lollipop in general - also includes Ambient notification mode. When a new notification arrives, the lockscreen will light up in a power-efficient (on AMOLED) black and white mode. Notifications in the new version of Android are visible on the lockscreen. You can hide notifications from certain apps for privacy reasons (or just to mute an annoying app). You can mark other apps as "priority" and then use the built-in filter to hide unimportant events from the lockscreen. The wave-to-wake gesture from the Moto X (2014) is missing though.

We're just comparing specs for now so the Nexus 6 is a huge phone with a Quad HD screen and Android 5.0 Lollipop which looks to be more expensive than the Sony Xperia Z3 which is smaller and features a waterproof design, High-Red audio and PS4 Remote Play.

Google Nexus 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus comparison: Nexus 6 is bigger than iPhone 6 Plus and in some ways better (but not all)
Quelle: PC Advisor Englisch EN→DE
The iPhone 6 Plus and Nexus 6 are fairly evenly matched, but there are some pros and cons to both. If you're already a huge fan of Android or iOS, then the decision is made a lot easier due to the software you'll find on these two smartphones. The iPhone 6 Plus offers a bigger storage option (but it's rather expensive), a more premium look and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, but the Nexus 6 offers a bigger and better screen, front-facing speakers and probably a lower price tag though we'll have to wait for official confirmation for that one.

It was codenamed Shamu, and we can see why. It's massive, measuring in at just under 160mm long - a smidgen more than the gargantuan iPhone 6 Plus. Apart from its size, it really does appear to be a carbon copy of the Moto X, sharing its rounded design, dual front-facing speakers, and rear dimple.

Nexus 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus comparison: Google's huge new Android smartphone takes on iPhone 6 Plus
Quelle: Macworld.co.uk Englisch EN→DE
It outshines the iPhone 6 Plus when it comes to the camera (at least specs wise) and screen quality, and we're glad to see front facing speakers on the new Nexus smartphone, but it can't trump the iPhone 6 Plus when it comes to design and storage capacity. If you're an iOS lover looking for a big-screened smartphone, the iPhone 6 Plus is a no-brainer, though we'd seriously consider whether the 4.7in iPhone 6 is big enough for your needs, but for Android phablet fans we've no doubt that the Nexus 6 will appeal.

I didn't expect to feel so torn about the Nexus 9. On the one hand, Android 5.0 Lollipop is refreshing, what with its snappiness and welcoming redesign. On the other, I can't help but feel a little frustrated that Google and HTC compromised on the Nexus 9's screen, speakers and design. I get the rationale.

Sure, the Google Nexus 9 is pretty and sports a bright display, as well as the latest version of the Android operating system. However, there's nothing that really sets the Nexus 9 apart from the competition. It's not the thinnest, it doesn't last the longest on a charge, and many of its apps don't take advantage of its larger screen. Plus, we found its physical buttons difficult to use.

All told, the Nexus 9 is one of the fastest Android tablets available. It’s got a great screen (if you’re into 9 inch screens), decent speakers, and long battery life. It also comes with Android 5.0 and has an unlockable bootloader. It makes a great multimedia device for reading, watching, or playing.

We're not just talking a basic coat of paint here, either: The changes include the introduction of slick new transitions and animations all throughout the system that, even with just the first few minutes of exploration, help to bring an extra level of polish to the experience. Design makes a big difference in what a device is like to use, and five minutes with Lollipop on the Nexus 9 makes that abundantly clear.

The Nexus 9 is a premium tablet and has the price to match. HTC seems to have made all the right calls with it, particularly with the move to a 4:3 aspect ratio. It feels like a quality product, the screen is good, the speakers are top-notch and the performance should be excellent.

Make no mistake: these are two evenly matched tablets, and it is unlikely you will be disappointed with either of them. If you have no strong leanings toward Android or iOS, you should base your decision on price and storage. If you want to save pennies the Nexus 9 is measurably cheaper. But if you need more than 32GB of storage - and many will - then the iPad Air 2 is your only choice. (See also: Nexus 7 vs Nexus 9 comparison.)

What we can say, however, that the Nexus 9 is a lovely device. HTC has brought some of its skill to the device with the front-facing BoomSound speakers, but we've yet to put them through their paces. We're hoping they match the performance of the HTC One M8. Priced at £319 for a 16GB Wi-Fi only Nexus 9 it will be available from 3 November. We will bring you a full Nexus 9 review, and all the details on Android 5.0 Lollipop, as soon as we get our hands on a final model. Until then, enjoy the pictures.

It has been a long time since a Nexus tablet went over 7" and it was about time. We appreciate what the Nexus 7 brings, its portability and accessible price tag, but we were left without a large tablet Nexus experience for two years now. HTC made it worth the wait though. The Nexus 9 design is sensible and has that premium HTC feel. It's not the thinnest and lightest tablet, but you could never stash an 8.9" tablet in a side pocket as easily as you do the Nexus 7. Still, Google made the decision to break Nexus tradition and charge a fairly high price tag.

If you like the idea of having a tablet that can replace your laptop, enabling you to use full versions of the Office suite, Photoshop and Illustrator and more, then the Surface Pro 3 is ideal. The Nexus 9 is undoubtedly better than the Nexus 7 with a more powerful 64-bit processor, better cameras and front facing stereo speakers. The screen is bigger too but there's a drop in pixel density and an increase in price. Stand by for an update once we get our hands on the Nexus 9.

Google:

Qualcomm Adreno 320: Eingebaut in Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 SoCs

NVIDIA Tegra:

3: High-End-SoC mit Quad-Core-CPU auf ARM Cortex A9 Basis + Stromspar-Kern, inkl. GeForce-GPU und Nachfolger des Tegra 2. Gefertigt in 40nm.

K1 (Denver): In 28 Nanometern gefertigter, 64-Bit-fähiger High-End-SoC mit zwei CPU-Kernen und Kepler-GPU von Nvidia.

Samsung Exynos:

5250 Dual: Exynos-5-SoC mit zwei Cortex-A15-Kernen und einer ARM Mali T604 Grafikeinheit.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

7-9 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.
