Das HP Envy 15 muss sich aufgrund seines Designs trotz der gänzlich unterschiedlichen Hardware einem Vergleich mit Apples Macbook Pro stellen. Dabei zieht HP klar den Kürzeren. Es wird anstelle von Aluminium lediglich Kunststoff für das Gehäuse verwendet. Die Rechenleistung liegt zwar deutlich über dem Macbook Pro, geht jedoch zu Lasten von Akkulaufzeit und Lautstärke. Bei der Technik gibt es zudem Abzüge für das dunkle Display.

Nichts verbessern sollte HP allerdings am sehr guten Display und der Tastatur. Ein Problem bleibt dem Envy 15 aber: Anders als beim luftigen Design der Apple Macbooks sieht man ihm die hochwertige Verarbeitung und das relativ geringe Gewicht nicht auf den ersten Blick an.

Taiwanese ODMs and lower-tier manufacturers have long tried to ape Apple's design ethic in the hope of generating some publicity. Larger entities, such as HP, have been known to take some inspiration as well, but they generally shy away from more overt imitation for fear of being made to look a little silly. With its Envy range, however, HP has been more brazen.

There's no denying the impulsive appeal of the Envy 15: it's an innovative, attractive and incredibly powerful machine. Unfortunately, though, it seems like a work in progress. Hopefully HP will nail the formula if and when it revisits the concept.

We like the dual HDMI and DisplayPort with the ability to drive multiple monitors, strong dedicated graphics, backlit keyboard and a FullHD 1080p IPS display. Though I purchased the Envy for review purposes, I've decided to keep it as my main Windows machine. It's a fast and capable gamer and Photoshop machine that can run for 5 hours on AC power-- sweet. And I like the aluminum casing, sturdy build and easily accessible internals too.

AMD Radeon HD 7690M: Umbenannte Radeon HD 6770M mit minimal gesteigertem Speichertakt. Laut AMD als DDR3 (Thames-XTX) und GDDR5 (Thames-XT) Version erhältlich.

Intel Core i7:

720QM: Der Core i7-720QM war zur Zeit der Einführung der langsamste Core i7-9xx Quad Core Prozessor. Er taktet dank Turbo Modus automatisch zwischen 1.6-2.8 GHz. Außerdem unterstützt er Hyperthreading zur gleichzeitigen Abarbeitung von 8 Threads. Im Vergleich zu den stärkeren Core i7 bietet er außerdem nur 6MB L3 Cache.

2670QM: Auf Sandy Brige Architektur basierender Quad-Core Prozessor (2.2-3.1 GHz) mit mit integrierter Intel HD Graphics 3000 Grafikkarte und integriertem DDR3 Speicherkontroller.

15.6: 15 Zoll Display-Varianten sind der Standard und werden für fast die Hälfte aller Notebooks verwendet. Notebook-Displays im 15 Zoll-Format sind der Standard schlechthin. 15.4 Zoll ist meist die genaue Größeneinheit für 16:10 Notebooks, während 15.6 Zoll ein Indiz für das Format 16:9 sind. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
