Das HP Envy 15 muss sich aufgrund seines Designs trotz der gänzlich unterschiedlichen Hardware einem Vergleich mit Apples Macbook Pro stellen. Dabei zieht HP klar den Kürzeren. Es wird anstelle von Aluminium lediglich Kunststoff für das Gehäuse verwendet. Die Rechenleistung liegt zwar deutlich über dem Macbook Pro, geht jedoch zu Lasten von Akkulaufzeit und Lautstärke. Bei der Technik gibt es zudem Abzüge für das dunkle Display.

Auch wenn der ausführliche Test nunmehr eine Reihe an weiteren spannenden Aspekten des Envy 15 aufgezeigt hat, der erste Eindruck als „MacBook Klon“ will dennoch nicht verschwinden. Zu zahlreich fallen unserer Meinung nach ähnliche Designmerkmale und Gadgets der beiden doch so fremden Geräte aus. Eines muss man dem Envy 15 aber lassen: in der „Windows-Welt“ genießt das Notebook bislang eine Sonderposition. Es bleibt abzuwarten ob noch andere Hersteller auf den Multimedia „Premium-Zug“ aufspringen werden.

Eventuell kann ein Bios-Feintuning den Serienmodellen hier zu besseren Ergebnissen verhelfen. Außerdem wird HP das Envy 15 wohl nicht in der getesteten Konfiguration auf den Markt bringen, sondern für 2000 Euro mit einem etwas niedriger getaktetem Core i7 und ohne SSD. Nichts verbessern sollte HP allerdings am sehr guten Display und der Tastatur. Ein Problem bleibt dem Envy 15 aber: Anders als beim luftigen Design der Apple Macbooks sieht man ihm die hochwertige Verarbeitung und das relativ geringe Gewicht nicht auf den ersten Blick an.

If you’re a graphics designer or video editor, the Envy 15 is more powerful than a 15-inch MacBook Pro, but you’ll probably prefer the Apple machine’s longer endurance and more comfortable keyboard and Touchpad. And if you want to play games, the ASUS G51J, which is $300 less expensive, will be more to your liking. Overall, the Envy 15 has the guts to be a MacBook killer, but we’d like to see HP provide longer battery life—without adding 2 pounds of weight—and cooler temperatures.

As I worked my way down the list of parts, everything about the HP Envy 15 ($1,800 direct) seemed as if it were a dream come true. An Intel Mobile Core i7 processor, 6GB of DDR3 memory, and midrange ATI graphics card are parts that you would find in an extremely large media center or gaming rig—not in a 15.6-inch aluminum frame that bears a strong resemblance to the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (SD Slot). Every component that powers the Envy 15 is what performance dreams are made of, but heat, unfortunately, is an aggravating side effect.

We can't help but be smitten with the HP Envy 15. It's a gaming powerhouse, a desktop replacement and more than powerful enough to keep us away from shopping notebooks for a few years. Yet it's gorgeous, very thin and light. Its unique looks and Apple-chic design make this one of the few gaming notebooks that you can take to a meeting without looking like boy-gamer redux. The machine's portability is somewhat compromised by the large power brick and is seriously compromised if you do indeed need an optical drive on the road and lots of battery power.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830: 40nm RV740 Chip (im Desktop HD 4700 Serie genannt) mit weniger Shadercores als die HD 4850/70 und nur 128 Bit Speicherbus. Die 4830 ist eine heruntergetaktete HD 4860 unterstützt jedoch nur DDR3 und GDDR3 statt GDDR5.

Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

720QM: Der Core i7-720QM war zur Zeit der Einführung der langsamste Core i7-9xx Quad Core Prozessor. Er taktet dank Turbo Modus automatisch zwischen 1.6-2.8 GHz. Außerdem unterstützt er Hyperthreading zur gleichzeitigen Abarbeitung von 8 Threads. 15.6": 15 Zoll Display-Varianten sind der Standard und werden für fast die Hälfte aller Notebooks verwendet. Notebook-Displays im 15 Zoll-Format sind der Standard schlechthin. 15.4 Zoll ist meist die genaue Größeneinheit für 16:10 Notebooks, während 15.6 Zoll ein Indiz für das Format 16:9 sind.
