HTC ist mit dem U Play ein echter Hingucker gelungen. Das spezielle Glas verschafft dem Gerät (zusamen mit dem U Ultra) ein gewisses Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Wer aufs Design bei seinem Smartphone achtet, der ist mit dem U Play gut beraten. Mit einem Preis von 449 Euro ist das Gerät aber nicht gerade günstig für ein Modell in der Mittelklasse. Für Niedrigpreise war HTC aber noch nie berühmt.

Die Leistung in den Benchmark-Tests ist vergleichsweise gering, in der Praxis kommen Sie gut durch den Alltag.

Das OnePlus 3T punktet im Vergleich mit besserer Hardware, das Honor 8 mit seiner Dual-Kamera. Fraglich, ob eine künstliche Intelligenz, die man beim Ausprobieren im Geschäft nicht direkt erfahren kann, als Kaufargument für das HTC U Play zieht.

Modell: Das HTC U Play gehört zu den neuen HTC Phones von 2017. Das Gesamtdesign des Phones gehört zu den attraktivsten Aspeke des HTC U Play. Es ist aus Metall und Glas, weist jedoch eine glattere und abgerundetere Form auf. HTC nennt es ein “Liquid-Surface”-Design. Die gebogene Glasrückseite streut Reflexionen auf eine ziemlich flüssigkeitsähnliche Art. Die weiße Variante des Smartphone weist einen rosafarbigen, fast perlmutt-ähnlichen Farbton auf, welches viel lustiger aussieht als das durchschnittliche weiße Phone. Zudem ist das HTC U Play auch in rosa, schwarz und blau erhältlich. Zum Schutz des Bildschirms nutzt das HTC U Play das neueste Gorilla Glass 5. Dieses kann Stürze auf harte Oberflächen von ziemlich hohen 1,6 m zu 80 % überstehen, während Gorilla Glass 4 nur dafür gedacht ist Stürze aus 1 m Höhe zu bewältigen. Der Bildschirm des HTC U weist eine leichte Textur aus diagonalen Linien auf. In puncto Hardware nutzt es einen MediaTek Helio P10 Prozessor und solide 3 GB RAM. Navigieren auf der Benutzeroberfläche und Apps, die die meisten User alltäglich nutzen, wie Facebook und Chrome wirken ziemlich flüssig. Allerdings läuft das HTC U Play unter Android 6.0 Marshmallow statt unter der neuesten 7.0 Nougat Version. Das bedeutet, dass es das ältere Android-Benachrichtigungssystem und kein vollständiges Dual-App-Multitasking zur Verfügung stellt.

Das HTC U Play verfügt über eine 16-MP-Kamera an der Vorderseite und eine 16-MP-Kamera an der Rückseite. Dank optischer Bildstabilisierung und HDR-Mode sind Nachtaufnahmen mit diesem Smartphone detailreich. Es gibt einen weiteren erwähnenswerten Modus, nämlich Zoe. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Modus, der immer wenn ein Foto geschossen wird, auch ein Bruchstück eines Videos aufnimmt. Außerdem eignet sich die Frontkamera hervorragend für Selfies und erzeugt natürlich aussehende Fotos. Das HTC U Play verfügt über einen 2.500-mAh-Akku. Ein Quick-Charging-Feature ist nicht verfügbar, denn es nutzt einen üblichen High-Power-Stromadapter mit 2A-Ladeadapter. Das könnte weniger praktisch sein, wenn User das Gerät für eine kurze Zeit laden wollen. Das HTC U Play unterstützt Stimmerkennung. Durch Sprachsteuerung kann das Smartphone entsperrt, eingehende Anrufe angenommen oder zurückgewiesen, der Wecker in den Schlummerzustand versetzt oder ausgeschalten, Nachrichten gesendet und sogar Navigation ohne Hände gestartet werden. Wie das HTC U Ultra bietet das Smartphone ein Zusatzfeature namens HTC Sense Companion. Es ist ein persönlicher Begleiter, der ständig vom Nutzer lernt und für seine oder ihre Bedürfnisse relevante Unterstützung bietet. Das HTC U Play ist ein weiteres sehr gutes Mittelklassephone. Es eignet sich für die meisten User, die die raffinierten Merkmale eines Flagshipts nicht brauchen.
