It's the first ThinkPad using AMD technology, and quite frankly, it worked well enough that we have no complains. Weniger ist oft mehr - die in den letzten Monaten erschienenen Notebooks lassen hoffen, dass diese Weisheit endlich auch bei den Herstellern angekommen ist. Denn der Verzicht auf alles Entbehrliche macht ein Notebook übersichtlicher, eleganter, leichter, stabiler, günstiger, und auch zuverlässiger. Was nicht drin ist, kann schließich auch nicht kaputt gehen.

Beim heutigen ThinkPad Edge 13 hat sich mehr verändert, als man auf den ersten Blick vermuten würde. Nicht nur das Aussehen ist seriöser. Während das knallige rot wohl seltener in Büros zu finden sein wird, dürfte das matte schwarz durchaus auf vielen Schreibtischen einen Platz finden. Die Ausstattung wurde um einen E-SATA Anschluss erweitert, bleibt aber ansonsten gleich.

It took us a while to decide whether Lenovo EDGE 13 deserves an award. Although it’s close to Best Buy, the fact remains that you can find models with stronger CPUs on the market at a similar or lower price. The keyboard really is phenomenal, but not enough to get the award for outstanding design. However, since this model has definitely hinted at a much brighter future for ThinkPad, awarded or not, this notebook deserves a wholehearted recommendation.

Im Umfeld der günstigsten 13.3-Zoller (unter 400 Euro) hat das Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 (665D817) einige Vorzüge, die in dieser Preisklasse eigentlich nicht zu erwarten sind. Zuerst sind da die erstklassigen weil feedbackstarken Eingabegeräte (Touchpad, Trackpoint, Tastatur). Die Stabilität des Chassis ist gelungen, wobei vor allem die massiven Metall-Gelenke hervorzuheben sind.

Lenovo: Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) ist der größte Personal-Computer-Hersteller Chinas (26 % Marktanteil) und seit der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Das Produktionsvolumen liegt bei knapp zwölf Millionen Geräten im Jahr. Neben PCs (ThinkCentre, Lenovo Value Line) und Notebooks (ThinkPad, Lenovo 3000 und andere) stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server und Handheld-Computer her. Der Hauptsitz des Unternehmens befindet sich in North Carolina, die Hauptniederlassungen sind in Peking und Singapur. Lenovo ist nach Angaben des Marktforschers IDC (Q2 2008) mit 7,5 % Marktanteil der weltweit viertgrößte Hersteller von Personal Computern (HP 18,9 %, Dell 16,4 %, Acer 9,9 % ).

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Im GM45, GS45 und GE45 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

ATI Radeon HD 3200:

onboard Grafikchip (RS780M Chipsatz) von AMD mit Avivo HD Technologie zur Entlastung der CPU bei HD Videos und guter 3D Leistung (für einen onboard Chipsatz). Unterstützt PowerXpress zum dynamischen Umschalten zwischen dedizierter und integrierter Grafik und Hybrid CrossFireX zur Leistungssteigerung mit einer dedizierten Grafikkarte (ähnlich Hybrid-SLI von Nvidia). Der Kern basiert auf eine HD 2400. Achtung, unter XP soll es keine 2D Beschleunigung aufgrund eines Treiberfehlers geben.

ATI Radeon HD 4225:

onboard Grafikchip im RS880M Chipsatz von AMD mit Avivo HD (jetzt UVD2 mit PIP Support) und guter 3D Leistung (für einen onboard Chipsatz). Technisch eine geringer getaktete HD 4250.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

SU7300: Langsam getakteter Core 2 Duo Prozessor mit 3 MB Level 2 Cache und geringem TDP von 10 Watt.

AMD Turion Neo X2:

L625: Subnotebook Doppelkernprozessor mit vergleichbarer Performance wie der Intel SU4100 (1.2 GHz) bei höherem Stromverbrauch.

AMD Turion II Neo:

K625: Doppelkernprozessor für flache und leichte Subnotebooks mit relativ geringem TDP von 15 Watt, aber durch die 1.5 GHz auch geringe Leistung auf Level der SU7300 CPUs von Intel.

K685: Doppelkernprozessor für kleine und flache Subnotebooks. Besitzt einen integrierten DDR3 Speicherkontroller.

13.3: 13 Zoll ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das verhältnismäßig kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten ein wenig anstrengend für die Augen ist. Sehr hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar. Nicht fehlsichtige Menschen sollten mit dieser Displaygröße aber zurechtkommen können.

77.78%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
