Rund 530 Euro kostet das MSI Wind U200: Damit ist es etwas teurer als ein Netbook. Das Subnotebook mit 12-Zoll-Display bietet aber auch mehr. Günstig alleine reicht nicht. Das MSI Wind U200 punktete im Test weder mit langer Akkulaufzeit noch mit hoher Rechenleistung – und sitzt so zwischen allen Netbook- und Notebook-Stühlen. Höchstens Anwendern, die ein sehr leichtes Notebook mit einem hochauflösenden Display suchen, kann man das MSI Wind U200 empfehlen.

Das MSI Wind U200 ist weder ultraslim, noch hat es eine Laufzeit von 8 Stunden. Dennoch können wir es zum Kauf empfehlen. Der Preis von aktuell 399 Euro ist so heiß, dass Schnäppchenjäger auf der Suche nach einem CULV-Subnotebook hellhörig werden sollten. ULV-Prozessor für lange Akkulaufzeiten, 320 GB Festplatte für viele Filme nebst Musik und eine 12-Zoll-WXGA-Anzeige mit 1366 x 768 Pixeln für einen guten Überblick. Ein Konkurrenzmodell zum 12-Zoller wäre das Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T in 11,6-Zoll. Dieses kostet mit vergleichbarer Core-Solo Ausstattung aber mindestens 444 Euro und kommt mit kleiner 250 GB Festplatte sowie Windows Vista.

Das MSI Wind U200 ist ein solides 12-Zoll Subnotebook mit bodenständigen Eigenschaften, die keine Höhenflüge erlauben. Die Akkulaufzeit von gut drei Stunden (BatteryEater Classic) ist ein Minimum für ein aktuelle Consumer Subnotebooks. Die Verarbeitung ist gut, hat aber ihre Schwachstellen in der Stabilität des Gehäuses und der Tastatur. Negativ kreiden die Tester dem Wind U200 die nicht entspiegelte Anzeige an.

It was the first computer to combine a 10in screen, 160GB hard disk, 1GB of memory and a low-power Intel Atom processor - almost every netbook sold today has an identical specification. While a netbook is still sufficient for light use, the U200 is a better option if you want a more capable portable computer

The littler Wind's bigger brother, with better everything, to boot. As a cheap and functional all-day laptop, the MSI Wind U200 is very desirable. Ultimately, choosing a CULV Wind over a netbook Wind is about the size. The final retail version uses an SU41100 processor with slightly less performance but potentially longer battery life. Either way,it's very desirable as a cheap and functional all-day laptop.

Despite being marketed by MSI as a netbook under its Wind brand, the use of a 12.1-inch screen and Intel Core 2 Solo processor mean the powerful and portable Wind 12 U200 has more in common with a CULV laptop than most netbooks. The Wind U200 is a good netbook that offers impressive performance and portability. The keyboard isn't the best we've seen, but doesn't detract too much from the otherwise good usability.

The MSI Wind 12 U200 is bigger and more powerful than a typical netbook, yet it's still small and easy to travel with. We love its keyboard, its battery life is good and its CPU is relatively powerful. Our main complaint is that it's a top-heavy unit, so firm knocks can make it topple backwards, especially when using it on your lap.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Im GL40 oder GS40 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Technisch eine geringer getaktete GMA 4500MHD (400 MHz versus 533) und durch den geringeren Takt auch kein BlueRay Logo Support.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel Pentium M: Mit Intel Chipsatz (855 oder 915) und Intel WLAN auch unter der Bezeichnung Centrino bekannt.
Im Vergleich sehr schnell pro Megahertz und sehr genügsam. Sehr gute Ganzzahlen Performance, leichte Schwächen bei Gleitzahlen Berechnungen.
Auch als Low Voltage Version erhältlich mit sehr geringem Stromverbrauch.

12.1": Es handelt sich um ein relativ häufiges Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Es stellt die durchschnittliche Grösse für Subnotebooks dar. Netbooks dagegen haben noch kleinere Displays. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Der kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten etwas anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar.

74.3%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Die meisten Notebooks werden besser beurteilt. Als Kaufempfehlung darf man das nicht sehen. Auch wenn Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich gar nicht so schlecht klingen ("genügend" oder "befriedigend"), meist sind es Euphemismen, die eine Klassifikation als unterdurchschnittliches Notebook verschleiern.
