Samsung Chromebook XE303C12-A01US

Das Samsung Chromebook Series 3 gehört zu einer Serie von Chromebooks, die Google Anfang 2013 herausgegeben hat. Das Notebook hat eine robustes, gänzlich aus Kunststoff gefertigtes, silbernes Gehäuse. Das kleine, 18 mm dicke Notebook wiegt nur 1,1 kg und ist damit leicht genug, um komfortable getragen werden zu können.

Der 11,6 Zoll große TN-Bildschirm hat eine Auflösung von 1366 x 768. IPS-Technologie, die Betrachten des Bildschirms von allen Winkeln ermöglichen würde, wird nicht genutzt. Zudem sind Farb-Temperatur und Grauskala nicht präzise. Wegen der kleinen Bildschirmgröße, werden User wahrscheinlich ohnehin nicht versuchen FHD-Videos anzuschauen. Das Notebook bietet aufgrund seines kleinen Formfaktors keine Standard-Tastatur. Das Chromebook Series 3 verfügt über eine Chiclet-Tastatur, die etwas Eingewöhnung verlangt, sollte man eine Desktop-Tastatur gewöhnt sein.

Das Chromebook läuft unter Chrome OS und ist mit Samsungs Exynos 5 dual-core ARM Prozessor (1,7 GHz) und 2 GB RAM ausgestattet. Leichtere Anwendungen laufen flüssig und schnell. Zu den Schnittstellen gehören HDMI-out, ein USB-3.0-Port, ein USB-2.0-Port, eine Kopfhörer- und Mikrophon-Buchse und einen Kartenleser. Es gibt nur 16 GB internen Flash-Speicher. Doch Chromebook-User stehen auf Google Drive 100 GB frei zur Verfügung. Die Akkulaufzeit von 10 Stunden Video-Wiedergabe ist ausgezeichnet.

The move to ARM doesn't fundamentally change the performance or usability of the Chromebook. It's still a slow (relative to more expensive notebooks), limited use notebook. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but you need to be aware of what you're getting into with this thing. The display is functional but not very good. Build quality is decent but the new Chromebook is still a plastic notebook.

In Samsungs Chromebook steckt ein ARM-Prozessor*. Der kommt auch in Smartphones und Tablets zum Einsatz und hat gegen den PC-Prozessor von Intel keine Chance. Als Reiseschreibmaschine eignet sich das XE303 trotzdem gut: Es ist nicht nur das leichteste, sondern auch das dünnste Chromebook im Test. Und mit gut viereinhalb Stunden Akkulaufzeit hält es länger durch als viele gleich große Notebooks.

Ebenso ist das Gewicht von nur 1,088 kg beeindruckend. Insgesamt hat Samsung dafür gesorgt, dass das Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US für Vielreisende, die es mitnehmen, leicht und robust bleibt. Wegen seiner Größe, ist die Tastatur des Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US beengt. Dabei wurde nicht der Tastenabstand sondern die Höhe der einzelnen Tasten verkleinert. Das kann ärgerlich sein, denn man könnte die falsche Taste erwischen. Noch schlimmer, wenn sich das Gerät an Blogger richtet, die viele Stunden für Korrigieren von Tippfehlern benötigen könnten. Der Hubweg der Tasten ist mit nur 1 mm ziemlich seicht. Manchmal könnte man sich fragen, ob man eine Taste wirklich gedrückt hat. Das Trackpad mag etwas besser sein. Jedenfalls wirkt ist das Tracking ausreichend genau. Da das Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US etwas mit Notebook und Tablet im Hinterkopf gestaltet wurde, ist ein Stylus inkludiert. Dieser kann fürs Notizen machen oder einfache Skizzieren nützlich sein. Allerdings sollten sich User von dem Stylus nicht zu viel erwarten, denn er verfügt über keine Druckempfindlichkeit. Bei einem Gerät dieser Klasse muss die Akkulaufzeit erwähnt werden. Das Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US erreicht bis zu 8 Stunden und 43 Minuten. Der Bildschirm frisst also wie erwartet Akkulaufzeit. Verglichen mit seinen Konkurrenten schneidet das Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US tatsächlich besser ab. Zudem macht der herrliche aussehende Bildschirm die etwas verringerte Akkulaufzeit wett. Das Samsung Chromebook Pro XE510C24-K01US schneidet als normales Notebook sowie als Tablet gut ab. Samsung’s latest Chromebook does many things right. It’s a delight to type on, it impresses with a very compact design, and the screen looks brilliant. In many ways, it’s a clear successor to Google’s aging Pixelbook. But for $999, it’s almost impossible to forgive the poor battery life, especially given that there are other options for powerful Chromebooks out there. Not to mention that you could get Apple’s just-updated MacBook Air or Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3 for that price. I can accept that a laptop with a 4K display won’t last 10 hours. But in 2020, I can’t recommend one that doesn’t even last four.

Die Galaxy-Smartphone-Reihe des Unternehmens ist eine der beliebtesten der Welt. Samsung ist auch ein wichtiger Akteur in der Halbleiterindustrie und stellt Speicherchips und Prozessoren für viele andere Elektronikhersteller her.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

ARM Mali-T604 MP4: Z.B. im Exynos 5 enthaltene Grafikkarte

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Intel HD Graphics oder GMA HD genannte onboard Grafikkarte welche im Package der Core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale Dual-Core Prozessoren untergebracht wird. Je nach Prozessormodell maximal mit 500 bis 766 MHz getaktet (Turbo Boost). Von Lenovo anscheinend auch GMA5700MHD genannt. Die gleichgenannte Intel HD Graphics Prozessorgrafik in den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren basiert auf einer neueren Architektur.

ARM Mali-T628 MP6: Im Exynos 5420 Octa integrierte Grafikkarte für Smartphones und Tablets.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail): Grafikeinheit in den Tablet- und Notebook-SoCs der Bay-Trail-Serie. Basiert auf der Ivy-Bridge-GPU, unterstützt DirectX 11 und bietet 4 EUs.

ARM Mali-T860 MP2: Zwei-Cluster Variante der Mali-T860 Grafikkarte für Smartphones und Tablets.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel HD Graphics 515: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2), welche in einigen Core-m-CPUs (Skylake, 4,5 Watt TDP) verbaut wird.

Intel HD Graphics 615: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2-Ausbau, 24 EUs), welche in einigen Kaby-Lake-CPUs der Y-Serie (4,5 Watt TDP) verbaut wird.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2-Ausbau, 24 EUs), welche in einigen Kaby-Lake-CPUs (Refresh, ULV-Modelle, 15 Watt TDP) verbaut wird. Technisch identisch zur HD Graphics 620 in den Kaby-Lake Modellen aus 2016.

Samsung Exynos:

5250 Dual: Exynos-5-SoC mit zwei Cortex-A15-Kernen und einer ARM Mali T604 Grafikeinheit.

5420 Octa: Exynos-5-SoC mit vier Cortex-A15-Kernen, vier Cortex-A7-Kernen und einer ARM Mali-T628 MP6 Grafikeinheit. Nachfolger des Exynos 5410.

Intel Celeron:

867: Auf Sandy Brige Architektur basierender Stromspar-Doppelkernprozessor ohne Turbo (max 1.3 GHz) mit integrierter HD Graphics Grafikkarte und integriertem DDR3 Speicherkontroller.

N2840: Sparsamer Dual-Core-SoC auf Basis der Atom-Architektur "Silvermont" für kompakte und preiswerte Einstiegsnotebooks. Taktet mit bis zu 2,58 GHz und integriert eine DirectX-11-fähige Grafikeinheit.

Intel Core m3:

6Y30: Auf der Skylake-Architektur basierender, sehr sparsamer ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für Tablets und 2-in-1-Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem zwei CPU-Kerne sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt.

Intel Kaby Lake:

Celeron 3965Y: Auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basierender, sparsamer ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für Tablets und lüfterlose Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem zwei CPU-Kerne mit 1,5 GHz Taktrate (ohne Turbo Boost und ohne HyperThreading) sowie eine Grafikeinheit (300-850 MHz) und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt.

Intel Comet Lake:

i5-10210U: Auf der Comet Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 1,6 - 4,2 GHz (3,9 GHz für alle 4 Kerne) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik (14nm++) gefertigt. Unterstützt bis zu LPDDR3-2133/DDR4-2666 Dual-Channel Hauptspeicher. Per cTDP up/down kann der Stromverbrauch und die Leistung vom Notebookhersteller von 10 auf 25 Watt eingestellt werden. Die CPU unterstützt kein vPro. Bietet im Vergleich zum höher getakteten i5-1051U auch nur 6 statt 8 MB L3 Cache.
