So wurde sowohl die Sprungvorhersage optimiert als auch die Zahl der Ausführungseinheiten erhöht, was eine um knapp 10 Prozent gesteigerte Pro-MHz-Leistung ermöglicht. Neue Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie AVX2 und FMA sollen die Performance in darauf ausgelegten Anwendungen zusätzlich verbessern.

Die Performance des Core i5-4402E entspricht in etwa der des Consumer-Modelles Core i5-4200U mit ähnlicher Taktrate.

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich eine im Prozessor integrierte GPU mit 20 EUs verantwortlich, welche die mittlere Ausbaustufe (GT2) der Haswell-GPU repräsentiert. Technisch dürfte diese der Intel HD Graphics 4600 anderer Core-i3-Modelle entsprechen, allerdings fällt die Taktrate mit 400 - 900 MHz etwas niedriger aus.

Die maximale Leistungsaufnahme des i5-4402E wird von Intel mit 25 Watt (TDP) spezifiziert, worin die CPU, die GPU, der Speichercontroller sowie Teile der Spannungsversorgung enthalten sind.

Dank Hyperthreading können die 2 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 4 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 2,6 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,2 GHz erreichen (2 Kerne: 3,1 GHz).

Verglichen mit dem Core i5-4200M taktet der 4210M lediglich 100 MHz höher, weshalb die Performance ebenfalls nur minimal höher ausfällt. Dennoch erreicht die CPU in etwa das Niveau des älteren High-End-Modells Core i7-3520M (Ivy Bridge). Damit stehen nicht nur für Office- und Multimedia-Zwecke, sondern auch für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen oder Multitasking ausreichende Leistungsreserven bereit.

Grafikeinheit

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Intel HD Graphics 4600 verantwortlich, die mit 400 - 1150 MHz taktet. Das Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4000 liegt (bei gleichem Takt) bei rund 30 Prozent, was die HD 4600 nahe an die Grafikeinheit der schnellsten Trinity-APUs von AMD heranbringt.

Leistungsaufnahme

Mit Haswell hat Intel die Leistungsaufnahme der Dual-Core-Modelle von 35 auf 37 Watt (TDP) angehoben, allerdings ist darin nun auch ein Teil der Spannungswandler enthalten. Am besten eignet sich die CPU für mittelgroße Notebooks ab etwa 13 - 14 Zoll.
