Der Intel Core i7-4550U ist ein sparsamer Dual-Core-Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der für den Einsatz in Ultrabooks vorgesehen ist. Dank Hyperthreading können die 2 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 4 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 1,5 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,0 GHz erreichen (2 Kerne: 2,7 GHz).

Haswell ist der Nachfolger der 2012 vorgestellten Ivy-Bridge-Architektur und soll vor allem mit höherer Performance und verbesserter Energieeffizienz punkten. So wurde sowohl die Sprungvorhersage optimiert als auch die Zahl der Ausführungseinheiten erhöht, wodurch die Pro-MHz-Leistung knapp 10 Prozent ansteigt. Neue Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie AVX2 und FMA sollen die Performance in darauf ausgelegten Anwendungen zusätzlich verbessern. Eine Besonderheit der ULV-Versionen ist die Integration des Chipsatzes auf das CPU-Package, um dadurch Leistungsaufnahme und Platzbedarf zu senken.

Die Performance des Core i7-4550U liegt entsprechend der gesteigerten Pro-MHz-Leistung in etwa auf dem Niveau des alten Core i7-3537U mit etwas höherer Taktrate. Unter Einsatz der neuen Befehlssätze wie AVX2 kann die Leistung aber auch deutlich besser ausfallen. Damit stehen nicht nur für Office- und Multimedia-Zwecke, sondern auch für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen ausreichende Reserven zur Verfügung.

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Intel HD Graphics 5000 verantwortlich, die mit 200 - 1100 MHz taktet. Diese verspricht ein deutliches Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4000, was die HD 5000 nahe an die Grafikeinheit der schnellsten Trinity-APUs von AMD heranbringt.

Gegenüber dem Vorgänger ist die maximale Leistungsaufnahme des i7-4550U auf 15 Watt (TDP) zurückgegangen, außerdem entfällt die zusätzliche Leistungsaufnahme des nunmehr bereits integrierten Chipsatzes. Damit ist die CPU für noch schlankere Ultrabooks ab etwa 11 Zoll geeignet.

Der Intel Core i7-4870HQ ist ein High-End Quad-Core Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der im dritten Quartal 2014 vorgestellt wurde. Dank Hyperthreading können die 4 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 8 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometer gefertigte CPU taktet mit 2,5 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,7 GHz erreichen (4 Kerne: 3,5 GHz, 2 Kerne: 3,6 GHz). Eine Besonderheit ist die schnelle integrierte GT3e-Grafikeinheit mit eigenem eDRAM-Speicher (128 MB, 77 mm², on-Package, 102 GB/s).

Architektur

So wurde sowohl die Sprungvorhersage optimiert als auch die Zahl der Ausführungseinheiten erhöht, wodurch die Pro-MHz-Leistung um etwa 5 bis 10 Prozent gesteigert werden konnte. Neue Befehlssatzerweiterungen wie AVX2 und FMA sollen die Performance in darauf ausgelegten Anwendungen zusätzlich verbessern.

Performance

Dank der gestiegenen Pro-MHz-Leistung erreicht der Core i7-4870HQ in etwa das Level des Core i7-3920XM auf Ivy-Bridge-Basis. Dies entspricht knapp dem Niveau des etwas höher taktenden Core i7-4810MQ (Haswell, GT2, kein eDRAM). Je nach Ausnutzung des Turbo-Boost-Spielraumes kann es hier jedoch von Notebook zu Notebook kleine Unterschiede geben. Auch anspruchsvollste Anwendungen meistert der i7-4870HQ ohne Schwierigkeiten.

Grafikeinheit

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Iris Pro Graphics 5200 ("GT3e") mit 40 Execution Units verantwortlich, die mit 200 - 1200 MHz taktet. Die Iris Pro verspricht ein deutliches Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4600 anderer Haswell-CPUs und erreicht sogar das Leistungsniveau dedizierter Mittelklasse-Grafikkarten (z.B. GeForce GT 740M).

Leistungsaufnahme

Die TDP von 47 Watt schließt neben den CPU-Kernen auch die Grafikeinheit, die Northbridge inklusive Speichercontroller sowie Teile der Spannungswandler ein. Damit ist die CPU lediglich für große Notebooks ab 15 Zoll geeignet.

Der Intel Core i7-4712MQ ist ein schneller mobiler Quad-Core Prozessor auf Basis der Haswell-Architektur, der im zweiten Quartal 2014 vorgestellt wurde. Dank Hyperthreading können die 4 Kerne gleichzeitig bis zu 8 Threads bearbeiten. Die in 22 Nanometern gefertigte CPU taktet mit 2,3 GHz, kann per Turbo Boost aber Frequenzen von bis zu 3,3 GHz erreichen (Turbo-Stufen: 4 Kerne: 3,0 GHz, 2 Kerne: 3,2 GHz). Als Besonderheit gegenüber anderen Quad-Core-Modellen ist der i7-4712MQ mit lediglich 37 Watt TDP spezifiziert. Im Unterschied zum 4712HQ ist die CPU nicht verlötet, sondern gesockelt, zudem fehlt VT-d.

Für die Grafikausgabe zeigt sich die im Prozessor integrierte Intel HD Graphics 4600 verantwortlich, die mit 400 - 1150 MHz taktet. Das Performanceplus gegenüber der HD Graphics 4000 liegt bei rund 30 Prozent, womit sich die HD 4600 knapp hinter der Radeon HD 8650G und auf dem Level einer dedizierten GeForce GT 720M einordnet.

Gegenüber vergleichbaren Modellen der Vorgängergeneration (Ivy Bridge: 35 Watt) ist die maximale Leistungsaufnahme des i7-4712MQ auf 37 Watt (TDP) angestiegen, was auf die Integration der Spannungsregler in die CPU zurückzuführen ist. Damit ist die CPU am besten für Notebooks ab etwa 14 Zoll geeignet.
