Der Intel Core i5-540UM ist ein zwei-Kern Prozessor für sehr kleine und leichte Notebooks und taktet dank Turbo mit 1.2 - 2 GHz. Das U im Namen steht für Ultra Low Voltage und bezeichnet den geringen Stromverbrauch der CPU (sie wird mit einer geringen Spannung betrieben). Die zwei Kerne basiert auf die Nehalem (Westmere) Mikro-Architektur und können dank Hyperthreading 4 Threads gleichzeitig abarbeiten. Der 520UM bietet im Vergleich zu den i3 UM CPUs alle Features des Westmere Kerns wie AES Funktionen, VT-d Virtualisierung und Trusted Execution.

Eine Besonderheit der neuen Dual-Core CPUs von Intel ist die Integration des Speichercontrollers und einer integrierten Grafikkarte (GMA HD) in das Package. Die CPU wird bereits in 32nm hergestellt, der Die für den Speichercontroller und die Grafikkarte jedoch noch in 45nm.

Im Vergleich zu den anderen Dual Core Core i5 CPUs, bieten die UM-Modelle nur Anschluss für DDR3 800.

Die Performance der einzelnen Kerne sollte dank Turbo und Hyperthreading über denen eines gleichgetakteten Core 2 Duo liegen (die Recheneinheiten sind sonst ähnlich). Dadurch sollte der Core i5-540UM im Schnitt schneller als ein Core 2 Duo SU9400 (1.4 GHz) sein. Je nachdem wie gut das Kühlungssystem des Subnotebooks ist, kann auch der Turbo oft greifen und dadurch die Geschwindigkeit noch deutlich erhöhen.

Die 32-nm-Prozessorkerne der Westmere-Generation verarbeiten auch einige neue Befehle, die AES-Verschlüsselung beschleunigen sollen.

Die integrierte Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) Grafikkarte wird mit 133-500 MHz getaktet werden (dank Turbo Boost). Durch den geringen Basistakt ist die Spieleleistung jedoch eventuell nicht sehr hoch (je nachdem ob der Turbo greifen kann oder nicht).

Der Stromverbrauch ist mit einem TDP von 17 Watt zwar relativ hoch für einen ULV Prozessor, jedoch ist darin die integrierte Grafikkarte und auch der Speichercontroller enthalten (vormals im Chipsatz welcher selbst 12 Watt benötigte). Dadurch ist der Stromverbrauch des ganzen Systems relativ gering. Durch den Turbo Mode wird der TDP unter Last jedoch (öfter) ausgereizt, wodurch der Stromverbrauch höher ausfallen kann als bei ähnlich spezifizierten Core 2 Duo Modellen.

Intel Core i5-560M

Der Intel Core i5-560M ist ein zwei-Kern Prozessor für Notebooks und taktet dank Turbo mit 2.67 - 3.2 GHz. Die zwei Kerne basiert auf die Nehalem (Westmere) Mikro-Architektur und können dank Hyperthreading 4 Threads gleichzeitig abarbeiten. Der 560M bietet alle Features des Arrandale Kerns wie Virtualization (VT-x und VT-d), Trusted Execution, AES New Instructions und Idle States. Im Vergleich zum Core i5-580M, bietet der 560M eine geringere maximale Turbo Boost Taktfrequenz.

Eine Besonderheit der Arrandale Dual-Core CPUs von Intel ist die Integration des Speichercontrollers und einer integrierten Grafikkarte (GMA HD) in das Package. Die CPU wird bereits in 32nm hergestellt, der Die für den Speichercontroller und die Grafikkarte jedoch noch in 45nm.

Die Performance des i5-560M liegt aufgrund des kleineren Level 3 Cache knapp unterhalb des i5-580m, welcher eine höhere maximale TurboBoost Taktung aufweist. Damit ist er einer der schnellsten mobilen Doppelkernprozessoren für Notebooks und im Schnitt schneller als alle Core 2 Duo Modelle. Dank HyperThreading kann der 560M auch langsam getaktete Quad Core CPUs in Multi-Threaded Anwendungen schlagen. Daher sollte der Prozessor für fast alle aktuellen Spiele und Anwendungen genügend Rechenleistung bieten (Anfang 2010).

Die 32-nm-Prozessorkerne der Westmere-Generation verarbeiten auch einige neue Befehle, die AES-Verschlüsselung beschleunigen sollen.

Die integrierte Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) Grafikkarte soll nach ersten Berichten mit bis zu 500-766 MHz getaktet werden (ev. auch mit Turbo Boost) und deutlich schneller werden als die alte GMA 4500MHD. Eine GeForce 9400M (ION) wird jedoch noch minimal schneller bleiben (mit besserem Treibersupport für Spiele).

Der Stromverbrauch ist mit einem TDP von 35 Watt zwar genauso hoch wie bei den T-Modellen der Core 2 Duo Serie, jedoch beinhaltet der TDP beim Core i5 auch die Grafikkarte und den Speichercontroller (beim Core 2 Duo waren diese noch im Chipsatz). Dadurch ist der Stromverbrauch des ganzen Systems wohl geringer. Unter Last wird der TDP durch den Turbo jedoch eher ausgereizt, wordurch der Stromverbrauch über vergleichbaren Core 2 Duo P-Modellen ausfallen kann (Idle deutlich darunter).

Intel Core i5-450M

Der Intel Core i5-450M ist ein zwei-Kern Prozessor für Notebooks und taktet dank Turbo mit max. 2.4 -  2.66 GHz je nach Auslastung / TDP Ausnutzung. Die zwei Kerne basieren auf die Nehalem (Westmere) Mikro-Architektur und können dank Hyperthreading 4 Threads gleichzeitig abarbeiten. Die Leistung des 450M ist in der Mittelklasse anzusiedeln. Im Vergleich zum Core i5-520M sind beim i5-450M die AES Funktionen deaktiviert.

Eine Besonderheit der neuen Dual-Core CPUs von Intel ist die Integration des Speichercontrollers und einer integrierten Grafikkarte (GMA HD) in das Package. Die CPU wird bereits in 32nm hergestellt, der Die für den Speichercontroller und die Grafikkarte jedoch noch in 45nm.

Dank Turbo Boost Technologie kann der 450M die Rechenkerne und auch die Grafikkarte je nach Last übertakten (CPU-Kerne in 133 MHz Schritten). Dies ist jedoch von der Art der Auslastung und der Kühlung abhängig. Grafikkarte und CPU-Kerne können wahrscheinlich nicht gleichzeitig übertaktet werden. Da jedoch praktische Anwendungen und Spiele meist nicht die Kerne voll auslasten, zeigt sich der Turbo in der Praxis als äußerst wirksam. Jedoch läuft die CPU unter Last viel häufiger an der TDP Grenze, also z.B. der Core 2 Duo Vorgänger. 

Dank des integrierten Speicherkontrollers, Hyper-Threading und Turbo Boost, kann sich der Core i5 im Schnitt deutlich von den gleichgetakteten Core 2 Duo Prozessoren absetzen. Im Schnitt entspricht die Performance einem 2.8 GHz getakteten Core 2 Duo T9600. Daher ist der i5-450M ein sehr schneller Dual-Core Prozessor, welcher für praktisch alle aktuellen Spiele und Applikationen genügend Rechenleistung bereitstellt.

Die integrierte Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) Grafikkarte soll nach ersten Berichten mit bis zu 500-766 MHz getaktet werden (mit Turbo Boost) und deutlich schneller werden als die alte GMA 4500MHD (auf Niveau einer HD 4200).
