Der Intel Core i7 820QM ist ein High-End Prozessor für Notebooks. Er bietet 4 Kerne (Quad Core CPU) welche, je nach Auslastung und Kühlung, mit 1.73 - 3.06 GHz getaktet wird (Turbo Modus). Dank Hyperthreading können bis zu 8 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet werden (zur besseren Auslastung der Prozessor-Pipeline).

Der 820QM hat einen integrierten Speichercontroller, welcher DDR3 1066 und 1333 Speicher direkt ansprechen kann. 

Der Stromverbrauch ist mit 45 Watt TDP (Maximum) im Bereich der alten Core 2 Quad Modelle, jedoch dank eingebautem Speichercontroller nicht höher. Durch den Turbo Modus wird der TDP jedoch eher ausgenutzt. Daher eignet sich der Core i7-820QM nur für große Laptops mit ausreichendem Kühlsystem.

Der Intel Core i7 940XM Extreme Edition ist ein High-End Notebook Prozessor und Nachfolger des 920XM Quad Cores. Er bietet 4 Kerne (Quad Core CPU) welche, je nach Auslastung und Kühlung, mit 2.13 - 3.3 GHz getaktet werden (Turbo Boost). Bei Auslastung aller 4 Kerne können max. 2.4 GHz, bei Auslastung von zwei Kerne 3.2 GHz und bei nur einem Kern die maximalen 3.3 GHz erreicht werden. Dank Hyperthreading können bis zu 8 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet werden (zur besseren Auslastung der Prozessor-Pipeline).

Der 940XM hat einen integrierten Speichercontroller, welcher DDR3 1066 und 1333 Speicher direkt ansprechen kann. 

Dank Turbo Boost, ist die Performance des 940XM meistens Vergleichbar mit dem Desktop Core i7-750 Quad Core. Dadurch ist die Performance für alle anspruchsvollen Spiele und Anwendungen von 2010 ausreichend. In Extremfällen kann jedoch die Performance etwas einbrechen, da der "Minimaltakt" von 2,13 GHz nicht sonderlich hoch ist.

Der Stromverbrauch ist mit 55 Watt TDP (Maximum) sehr hoch (jedoch inkl. eingebautem Speichercontroller). Daher eignet sich der Core i7-940XM nur für große Laptops mit ausreichendem Kühlsystem.

Die CPU gehört zur Extreme Serie von Intel CPUs und lässt sich daher dank frei wählbarem Multiplikator sehr einfach übertakten.
