Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger Ryzen 7 2700U wurde der Herstellungsprozess leicht verbessert (14 auf 12nm) welcher höhere Taktraten bei gleichem Stromverbrauch erlaubt. Weiters wurden minimale Verbesserungen bei der Microarchitektur vorgenommen (etwa 3% höhere IPC, Leistung pro Takt). Dadurch soll die neue Generation 8% schneller sein als die Vorgängermodelle (laut AMD). Im Vergleich zum Ryzen 7 3700U, bietet der 3780U die schnellere Vega 11 Grafikkarte mit 11 CUs (704 Shader) mit bis zu 1400 MHz.
