Der AMD Ryzen 9 5980HX ist ein Mobilprozessor für große Notebooks (z.B. Gaming Laptops) basierend auf die Cezanne Generation. Der SoC beinhaltet acht Zen 3 Kerne (Octa-Core CPU) welche mit bis zu 4,8 GHz getaktet werden (Turbo) und SMT / Hyperthreading (16 Threads) unterstützen. Der Chip wird im modernen 7nm Prozess bei TSMC gefertigt und soll Anfang 2021 vorgestellt werden. Das X im Namen bezeichnet die Übertaktungsmöglichkeiten der CPU.
Die neue Zen 3 Microarchitektur bringt im Desktop laut AMD eine um 19% höhere IPC (Instructions per Clock) Performance. In Anwendungs-Tests bei gleichem Takt waren es meist gegen 12%, bei Spielen noch deutlich mehr. In unseren Tests kann der R9 5980HX eine vergleichbare Performance zum Topmodell von Intel, dem Core i9-11980HK (Tiger-Lake-H) , zeigen. Damit ist der 5980HX einer der schnellsten Mobilprozessoren in 2021 und für alle anspruchsvollen Aufgaben gut geeignet.
Der SoC integriert neben den acht Prozessorkernen noch eine Radeon RX Vega 8 Grafikkarte mit 8 CUs und bis zu 2100? MHz Takt, einen Dual-Channel DDR4-3200 / LPDDR4-4200 Speicherkontroller und 16 MB Level 3 Cache.
Der TDP ist weiterhin von 35 - 54 Watt konfigurierbar (45 Watt Default). In der X-Serie kann der TDP auch höher gewählt werden. In unseren Tests war die Effizienz deutlich besser als beim i9-11980HK (CB15).
