Die AMD Radeon HD 8550G + HD 8670M Dual Graphics bezeichnet die asymmetrische Crossfire Kombination aus AMD Radeon HD 8550G Prozessorgrafikkarte im AMD Prozessor und der dedizierten AMD Radeon HD 8670M Grafikkarte.

Beide Grafikkarten arbeiten bei der Grafiklösung im CrossFire Verbund und berechnen dadurch im AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) Modus abwechselnd ein Bild. Deshalb leidet die Grafiklösung auch unter Microruckler bei Bildraten um die 30fps (unterschiedliche Abstände zwischen zwei Bildern führen zu Rucklern obwohl genug Bilder pro Sekunde berechnet werden). 

Die Performance der AMD Radeon HD 8550G und HD 8670M Dual Graphics ist stark abhängig von der Treiberunterstützung des eingesetzten Spiels oder der Applikation. Bei manchen Spielen kann die Leistung sogar etwas schlechter sein als mit einer Grafikkarte alleine. Bei guter Treiberunterstützung für das Spiel kann man aber durchaus messbare Verbesserungen in der Framerate erkennen, sodass der GPU-Verbund sogar eine GT 740M erreicht. Durch merkbares Ruckeln bei Frameraten um die 30fps (Microruckler) ist der Vorteil aber nur bei geringen Auflösungen / Einstellungen nutzbar.

Die Features wie PureVideo HD (UVD3) oder OpenCL Unterstützen entsprechen den beiden einzelnen Grafikkarten.

Da bei der Dual Graphics Grafiklösung unter Last beide Grafikkarten arbeiten, ist der Stromverbrauch deutlich höher.

AMD Radeon HD 8690M

Die AMD Radeon HD 8690M (manchmal auch noch ATI Mobility Radeon HD 8690 genannt) ist eine DirectX 11.1 Grafikkarte für Notebooks. Technisch basiert die 8690M auf einen neuen 28nm GCN Kern (Mars mit 64 Bit Speicherbandbreite) und ist daher mt der 8500M und 8700M Serie (selber Chip) verwandt.

Der Chip der HD 8690M wird mit 775 MHz getaktet und kann sich per Boost automatisch auf maximal 825 MHz übertakten. Als Speicher kommt GDDR5-VRAM mit einer Taktrate von 1.125 MHz (4.500 MHz effektiv) zum Einsatz, der allerdings nur über ein schmales 64-Bit Interface angebunden ist. Der Mars Chip bietet 384 Shader, 24 TMUs und 8 ROPs und erreicht hier eine maximale Rechenleistung von 633 GFLOPS.

Die Leistung der HD 8690M liegt etwa im Bereich einer GeForce GT 730M. Damit können aktuelle und anspruchsvolle Spiele (Stand 2013) wie Far Cry 3 in niedrigen bis mittleren Einstellungen flüssig dargestellt werden. In älteren Titeln sollten auch höhere Settings oder zusätzliche Kantenglättung möglich sein.

Die 384 Shader können per OpenCL auch für generelle Berechnungen eingesetzt werden (als 6 Compute Units). Im Vergleich zur Terascale 2 Architektur der 7600er Serie, ist die GCN Architektur deutlich schneller bei generellen Berechnungen.

Die 8600M Serie unterstützt das automatische Umschalten zur Prozessorgrafik welches ab nun Enduro genannt wird (vormals Dynamic Switchable Graphics). Dual-Graphics mit Trinity wird jedoch nicht unterstützt. Dank Eyefinity können bis zu 2 Monitore an den Grafikchip angeschlossen werden.

Die 8600M Serie bietet neben Enduro auch einige zusätzliche Stromspartechniken. AMD hat zum Beispiel Power Gating im Chip implementiert um Bereiche des Grafikchips abzuschalten die nicht benötigt werden. Weiters ermöglicht ZeroCore einen deutlich verringerten Stromverbrauch bei inaktivem Display (natürlich nur ohne Enduro schlagend). Zu guter letzt gibt es noch die PowerTune Funktion mit der AMD den Chip automatisch über- und untertakten kann um innerhalb der TDP Grenzen zu bleiben. Laut AMD wird der Chip z.B. bei extremen Lasten von Furmark oder OCCT SC8 untertaktet und bei Spielen wie Lost Planet, Crysis oder Resident Evil übertaktet um den TDP ideal auszuschöpfen.

Die GPU besitzt auch weiterhin einen integrierten HD Audio Prozessor, der  Discrete Digital Multipoint Audio (DDMA) unterstützt und so Audio an mehrere Ausgabegeräte gleichzeitig geschickt werden kann.

Der Stromverbrauch sollte etwa der alten Radeon HD 7670M entsprechen und dadurch für Notebooks ab 13-15" geeignet sein.
