Der Intel Core i9-12950HX ist eine High-End-Notebook-CPU auf Basis der neuen Alder-Lake-Architektur. Die CPU basiert auf den Alder Lake-S Desktop-Chip und bietet alle 8 Performance Kerne (P-Kerne, Golden Cove Architektur) und 8 Effizienzkerne (E-Kerne, Gracemont Architektur). Die P-Kerne unterstützten Hyperthreading (daher gemeinsam 24 Threads) und takten von 2,3 bis 5 GHz. Die E-Kerne takten von 1,7 - 3,6 GHz und sollen eine vergleichbare Performance wie alte Skylake Kerne bieten (z.B. i7-6920HQ). Im Unterschied zum i9-12900HX, bietet der 12950HX Intel vPro Managment Features und ECC Speicher (Nachfolger der Xeon Linie). Die Übertaktungsoptionen sind jedoch etwas begrenzt.

Performance

Durch die zwei zusätzlichen P-Kerne und den höheren TDP sollte der i9-12950HX deutlich schneller sein als der i9-12900HK. Dadurch eignet sich die CPU hervorragend für anspruchsvolle Anwendungen und Spiele.

Grafikeinheit

Wie auch der Vorgänger, integriert Intel in Alder Lake eine Intel Xe basierende Grafikeinheit. Beim 12950HX sind alle 32 EUs aktiviert und takten mit bis zu 1,55 GHz. Der schwächere 12900HK Mobilchip bietet 96 EUs.

Wie auch Tiger Lake, hat auch Alder-Lake-P WiFi 6E und Thunderbolt 4 (4x) teilintegriert. Der integrierte Speicherkontroller unterstützt DDR5-4800 und DDR4-3200. Der integrierte Gaussian and Neural Accelerator (GNA) ist nun in Version 3.0 verbaut. Die Media Engine Quick Sync 8 ist die selbe wie in Rocket Lake und unterstützt MPEG-2, AVC, VC-1 Decode, JPEG, VP8 Decode, VP9, HEVC und AV1 Decode. Der Chip unterstützt 48 PCIe Lanes, davon 16 PCIe 5.0 (x16 oder 2 x8).
