Der Intel Atom 230 ist ein für Nettops (kleine Desktops) gedachter Atom Prozessor. Im Vergleich zum Intel Atom N270 fehlen dem 230 Stromsparfunktionen wie Speedstep und er hat ein relativ hohes TDP Rating von 4 Watt. 

Durch die "in-order" Architektur ist er pro Takt deutlich langsamer als ähnlich getaktete Core 2 Duo Modelle, jedoch unterstützt er bereits Mutlithreading um 2 Threads gleichzeitig auszuführen.

Der Intel Atom Z540 ist ein stromsparender Atom Einzelkern-Prozessor für kleine Notebooks, Netbooks und MIDs. Im Vergleich zum N270 bietet der Z540 Virtualisierungsfunktionen in der CPU und die Stromsparmechanismen Idle States und Demand Based Switching. Ausserdem ist er etwas höher getaktet und trotzdem mit einem geringerem TDP spezifiziert. Der Einkaufspreis ist jedoch deutlich höher.

Die Performance des Z540 ist trotzdem relativ gering und reicht nur für anspruchslose Aufgaben wie Websurfen, Email oder Office Aufgaben. Ohne Unterstützung der Grafikkarte, überfordern den Atom Z540 z.B. bereits HD Videos oder mehrere parallel laufende Anwendungen. Die Performance pro Megahertz ist im Vergleich zu anderen Single Core Prozessoren (Celeron M, Core 2 Solo) sehr gering, da der Atom auf eine in-order Ausführung setzt (er sortiert die Befehle nicht automatisch für die bessere Auslastung). Dieser Nachteil wird aber teilweise durch das integrierte Hyper-Threading wieder vermindert (die CPU gibt sich hierbei als 2 Kern CPU aus um die Aufgaben besser einteilen zu können).
