The battery life and performance might be underwhelming, and the price isn’t the very lowest you can pay for a UMPC, but what you’re paying for here is a solid combination of features that matter in a portable computer. It has a full set of ports, a version of Wi-Fi that will work everywhere you go, a real (shock-resistant) hard drive and a full, familiar operating system. Most important of all, the excellent keyboard that means you can do real work when you carry the MiniNote with you, and if you spill your coffee on the keyboard it should survive. With all that, the MiniNote feels as if it should cost more than it does. It’s a real PC that’s small and light enough to carry around; solid and sturdy enough to stand up to being carried around, and so well designed you’ll want to take it with you. The processor in the MiniNote is a Via C7-M; we looked at the 1.2 GHz model, but 1.6 GHz is an option as well.

While it's somewhat bigger and pricier than other mini-notebooks, the HP 2133 Mini-Note offers a few features that the others don’t, including an adult-size keyboard and a design more suited to business users. If all you need is a low-cost laptop that can run Windows, you may want to wait for the 9-inch version of the Eee PC. But if you require more from your mini-notebook and don’t mind paying for it, the HP 2133 Mini-Note delivers the goods.

While an earlier contestant - the Eee PC 701 from Asus - is a great entry-point for the One-Laptop-Per-Child (OLPC) crowd, that mini-laptop's slight keys and featherweight heft makes it feel more like 'My First Computer' than something for the One-Laptop-Per-Adult set. The HP 2133 Mini-Note offers several different options than the Eee. Depending upon which pre-configured model you pick, the HP 2133 Mini-Note ranges anywhere from a $499 (£250) system running Linux to a $749 (£375) model using Microsoft's Windows Vista Business operating system. The HP 2133 Mini-Note is certainly a great option for the classroom or boardroom, but it could be even better with an Intel processor and XP installed.

The HP 2133 Mini-Note is one of the most impressive subnotebooks we've ever seen. Unfortunately, the amazing design and solid range of features are diminished by a sub-par processor and a price tag that places this notebook dangerously close to far superior 12-inch notebooks such as the HP tx2000. HP managed to create the single most impressive ultraportable notebook on the market ... and then decided to put a lackluster processor inside. Despite the poor processor performance, the HP 2133 Mini-Note is a remarkably solid machine that could be a perfect fit for students, teachers, or mobile business professionals. If HP decides to replace the VIA processors with the new Intel Atom processors or alternative processors from Intel, the Mini-Note would become the undisputed champion of the subnotebook market.

Talk to HP executives, and they'll tell you that the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC introduced today targets the educational market. Ask about its place in the mainstream laptop segment, and they'll tie you to a chair and tell you it's meant for instructional use. Comment on its VIA processor or choice of operating systems, and they'll wrestle you to the ground and tell you it's designed with K-12 classrooms in mind. While it does compete with Intel's Classmate PC (and, to a much lesser extent, the $200 One Laptop Per Child notebook), the 2133 is unmistakably HP’s response to the two-pound, $400 Asus Eee that's been winning over business travelers -- and putting “Sold Out" signs in retail stores -- since it debuted five months ago.

Despite an underpowered CPU, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC offers the best balance of small size, comfort, and functionality we've seen in a mininotebook, making it fast a favorite for on-the-go use.

VIA Chrome9 HC: Integrierte (shared Memory) Grafikkarte für Notebooks mit DirectX 9.0 Unterstützung  und Videobeschleunigung. Leistungsmäßig unter aktuellen integrierten Grafikkarten und  nur zur ruckeligen Darstellung von Windows Vistas Aero Oberfläche fähig.

Viele Spiele sind mit diesen Karten nicht (kaum) lauffähig oder laufen nur sehr langsam. Für Spieler nicht geeignet! Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem laufen.

VIA C7-M: Stromsparende Prozessoren, jedoch nicht so schnell wie ein gleichgetakteter Pentium / AMD Prozessor

8.9": Es handelt sich um ein sehr kleines und seltenes Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Es gibt fast keine kleineren Displays und auch dieses Format ist sehr selten.

Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das ganze Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das winzige Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten sehr anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind fast nicht nutzbar.

1.4 kg: Dieses Subnotebook gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt nur wenige Sub-Notebooks, die noch leichter sind. 10 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

HP: HP gehört zu den grössten internationalen Herstellern hinsichtlich Marktanteile und getesteter Modelle am deutsch- und englisch-sprachigen Markt. Hp-Notebooks finden sich häufig in Top-Positionen bzgl. der Preis/Leistungs-Bewertung wieder.
