Test MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming Z 8G

Leises Biest. - Eine leise und großzügig dimensionierte Kühlung und ein leichtes Overclocking zeichnen das Topmodell der MSI-GTX-1070-Grafikkarten aus. Im Test beweist die Gaming Z mit großzügigen 8 GB GDDR5 ihr Können.

Mit etwa einem Kilo ist die MSI GTX 1070 relativ schwer. Dies ist dem massiven Montagerahmen unter der Kunststoffabdeckung und der einteiligen Backplate auf der Rückseite geschuldet. Als Anschlüsse bietet die Gaming-X-Grafikkarte einen Dual-Link-DVI-D (ohne analoges Signal), ein HDMI-2.0-Port und drei DisplayPort-1.4-Anschlüsse. Insgesamt hinterlässt unser Testmodell einen hochwertigen Eindruck, und auch das schwarz-rote "Dragon"-Design mit der anpassbaren RGB-LED-Beleuchtung gefällt.

Unsere Testkarte wurde mit einem Presse-BIOS ausgestattet, das nur minimal über dem Standard-Bios der ausgelieferten Karten taktete. Einige später mit dem Referenz-BIOS durchgeführten Benchmarks zeigten eine kaum verringerte Leistung. Als Treiber setzten wir den 368.69 bzw. 368.81 für die meisten Spiele und Benchmarks ein.

Die MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z ist das Topmodell und unterscheidet sich von der Gaming X durch die um 63 MHz höhere Boost-Taktrate. Ursprünglich haben wir leider versehentlich die Karte als Gaming X identifiziert.

Unser Testsystem:

Intel Core i7-4790K (unübertaktet), 16 GB DDR3, Asus ZU97-Deluxe, Asus PB287Q 4K Monitor, Intel SSD 530 (240 GB, System), OCZ Trion 100 SSD (480 GB, Benchmarks), Windows 10 64 Bit 

Taktraten

Unsere Testkarte erreichte maximal 2.025 MHz Kerntakt (GPU-Z Render Test in den ersten Sekunden) und 8.050 MHz Speichertakt. Bei längerer Last (The Witcher 3 ultra im Fenster) pendelte sich der Takt bei 1.962 MHz ein. In Heaven 4.0 bei 1.987 MHz bei maximal 67 °C Kerntemperatur. Offiziell war ein Basistakt von 1.633 und Boost von 1.835 MHz beim Gaming Bios angegeben.

Synthetische Benchmarks

In den synthetischen Benchmarks von Futuremark und Unigine platziert sich die MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z genau zwischen der alten GTX 980 Ti und der aktuellen GTX 1080 Founders Edition.

Gaming Performance

Auch bei den Spielen reiht sich die GTX 1070 oberhalb der alten GTX 980 Ti ein. Nur im Bioshock Infinite Benchmark ist sie knapp langsamer. Sieht man sich die 4K Performance an, eignet sich die GTX 1070 derzeit gut für unsere 4K Settings mit hoher Detailstufe. Nur beim anspruchsvollen XCOM 2 kämpft sie mit weniger als 30 fps. In Full-HD mit maximalen Details bleibt auch für schnelle 3D Shooter genügend Headroom.

Auch unter anhaltender Last bleibt die Leistung der MSI GTX 1070 stabil. Im Stresstest des 3DMark (Time Spy DX12 Test) erreicht die Karte bei 20 Durchläufen sehr gute 99,5 % Stabillität. Durch die stabilen internen Temperaturen sind auch keine Abfälle bei längerer Nutzung zu erwarten.

Compute Performance

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 bietet 8 Compute Units für generelle Berechnungen, welche über OpenCL, DirectCompute und CUDA angesprochen werden können. Im LuxMark Room Test gibt es eine kleine Überraschung. Hier kann sich die GTX 980 Ti knapp gegen die 1070 durchsetzen, welche praktisch gleich schnell die Berechnungen durchführt wie die GTX 1080. Auch in der Sala Szene ist die 980 Ti schneller, die 1080 kann sich jedoch hier an die Spitze setzen. Im ComputeMark ist die Reihenfolge jedoch wie bei den synthetischen Benchmarks: 1080 gefolgt von 1070 und 980 Ti.

Bei der Lautstärke der Lüfter hält sich die MSI 1070 Gaming Z 8 GB angenehm zurück. Ohne Last bleiben die beiden großen Lüfter ausgeschaltet, wodurch die Karte lautlos ist. Erst nach über 2 Minuten Last fangen die Lüfter mit ungefähr 800 Umdrehungen pro Minute an. Selbst unter anhaltender Last bleiben sie angenehm leise und gehen im Geräuschpegel unseres leisen be-quiet CPU Lüfters unter. Trotz der leisen und relativ langsam drehenden Lüfter bleiben die internen Temperaturen der GPU im Rahmen. Bei Heaven 4.0 pendelte sich die GPU bei unkritischen 67 °C ein, dadurch kam es zu keinerlei Throttling durch zu hohe Temperaturen. 

Die Oberflächentemperaturen bleiben in unserem Test ebenfalls im Rahmen. Maximal messen wir 58 °C mit der Wärmebildkamera und 50 °C mit dem Infrarotmesser auf der Rückseite.

Beim Stromverbrauch kann die GTX 1070, wie schon die GTX 1080, punkten. Am Windows Desktop mit einem per DisplayPort angeschlossenen 4K-Monitor ist die MSI Karte zwar knapp 5 Watt (73 versus 68 Watt) oberhalb der GTX 1080 Founders Edition (welche laut Nvidia auf geringen Stromverbrauch optimiert wurde), bleibt aber noch deutlich unterhalb der RX 480 (79 Watt). Nur mit integrierter HD 4600 brauchte unser Testsystem übrigens 60 Watt, die alte MSI GTX 970 zog etwa 78 Watt aus der Steckdose.

Unter Last (Furmark) benötigte das Testsystem mit der 1070 290 Watt bei 230 fps (1,26 W pro Bild). Die GTX 1080 benötigte nur 10 Watt mehr, erreichte aber wegen Throttling weniger fps (211 fps, daher 1,42 Watt pro Bild). Die GTX 970 von MSI bleibt mit dem alten 28-nm-Prozess deutlich dahinter und braucht 315 Watt für 135 fps (2,33 Watt pro Bild). Sogar die XFX Fury Pro ist hier im Test mit 2,15 Watt pro Bild effizienter (340 Watt, 158 fps). Die neue RX 480 von AMD positioniert sich dazwischen mit 124 fps bei 246 Watt (1,98 Watt pro Bild).

Fazit

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 zeigt sich im Test als gelungener Chip von Nvidia. Die Effizienz ist wie bei der GTX 1080 hervorragend, und die Leistung toppt sogar das alte Spitzenmodell GTX 980 Ti. Auch für das Spielen in 4K eignet sich der Grafikchip, wenn man nicht immer die maximalen Details und Antialiasing ausnutzen muss. Bis Vega von AMD kommt, ist nur die 980 Ti als Konkurrenz zur 1070 erhältlich.

Die MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z 8 GB zeigt sich als hervorragende Partnerkarte. Das Kühlsystem arbeitet leise und effizient, das Design ansprechend und hochwertig. Durch die höheren Taktraten kann sich die MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z 8 GB deutlich von der 1070 Founders Edition absetzen. Preislich bewegt sich die MSI Karte im ähnlichen Rahmen wie die Founders Edition und erhält daher von uns eine klare Kaufempfehlung. Um 40 Euro weniger erhält man die günstigste Variante der 1070 namens Aero. Hier muss man selbst entscheiden, ob der leisere Lüfter, Design und Beleuchtung und wahrscheinlich höhere Performance den Aufpreis wert sind.
