Framework Desktop mit 192GB Speicher kann bald vorbestellt werden

Framework is finally opening pre-orders for its top-end Gorgon Halo-powered Framework Desktop. The compact workstation will become available to order on Wednesday morning (Pacific Time), September 30. It features remarkably more unified memory than the existing Ryzen AI Max+ 395 configuration, and a couple of minor hardware changes. Unfortunately, pricing has not yet been announced, and if recent Gorgon Halo mini-PCs are anything to go by, it won’t be cheap.

The new Framework Desktop was first previewed in July at AMD's Advancing AI event. It is powered by AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 CPU, which has the same 16-core/32-thread layout as its Strix Halo-based predecessor, but raises the maximum CPU boost clock to 5.2 GHz. Its integrated Radeon 8065S GPU features 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units, while the NPU is rated at up to 55 TOPS. Framework lists the complete system at 131 TOPS of combined AI compute.

Framework equips the new configuration with 192 GB of LPDDR5X unified memory, delivering 273 GB/s of bandwidth, of which 160 GB can be allocated to the GPU. For comparison, the existing Ryzen AI Max+ 395 version tops out at 128 GB, with GPU capacity capped at 96 GB.  Framework also says the 192 GB model will ship with a Noctua fan pre-installed. A pre-built version with Fedora pre-loaded will be offered too, while Framework's existing Desktop platform already officially supports Fedora alongside Windows and other Linux distributions.

The new Framework Desktop’s PCIe x4 slot is now open-ended, allowing physically larger PCIe cards to be installed despite the electrical x4 connection. For example, you can install 50 GbE adapters on two systems and link them over RDMA-over-Ethernet, providing a combined 384 GB of memory across the whole setup.
