With better performance that your average netbook yet a lower price - and lower weight - the Advent Vega is an appealing tablet. Personally, I don't like the widescreen aspect ratio, but if you're happy to live in landscape orientation that won't worry you. The lack of storage capacity can easily be addressed with a cheap Micro SD card upgrade. Get one and the Vega becomes a decent big-screen PMP, but without access to fresh apps, it won't become a mobile companion.

It would be kind to explain away the Advent Vega as an over-enthusiastic attempt to get a knock-down price iPad into the hands of the masses in time for Christmas. But this poor copy of Apple’s tablet appears more as another embarrassment to the Dixons Stores Group and its house-brand Advent. Like the Toshiba Folio 100 tablet that DSG is alleged to have removed from sale after so many customer complaints, the Advent Vega is not especially fit for purpose. The key issues are that it cannot download new apps from the Android Market, its screen is nearly unviewable at most off-axis angles, and the promised Adobe Flash support is so flakey it had to be removed from future stocks of the device. There may one day appear tablet PCs cheaper than the Apple iPad that deserve attention. Until then, the Advent Vega joins the pile of cheap cash-in products that we’d recommend avoiding.

There are times – web browsing, for instance – when we had to remind ourselves how cheap the Vega is, given its performance lived up to other far more expensive tablets. At other times, the cost-cutting required to hit that price reared its head, with the lacklustre viewing angles of the display being a particular frustration. Reading text or looking at photos or video is simply a more enjoyable experience with the iPad or Galaxy Tab’s displays.

This is a fairly accomplished touchscreen internet device with additional features including checking your emails and, er, telling the time. As such, it's a decent effort at a very attractive price. But anyone looking for a fully fledged Android tablet should look elsewhere or risk disappointment.

NVIDIA GeForce ULP (Tegra 2): Integrierte Ultra Low Power (ULP) GPU im Tegra 2 SoC und je nach version von 300 bis 400 MHz getaktet.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafikkarten hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem laufen.

10.1": Es handelt sich um ein kleines Displayformat für Subnotebooks bzw. sind 10 Zoll das Standardformat für Netbooks. Der Vorteil der Mini-Notebooks liegt darin, dass das Gerät klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das vergleichsweise kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten relativ anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar wegen zu kleiner Schrift- und Icongröße.

0.7 kg: Dieses Subnotebook/Netbook/UMPC, sofern man es als solches überhaupt bezeichnen kann, gehört zu den leichtesten Notebooks überhaupt und kann klarerweise hervorragend getragen werden. Es gibt kaum Sub-Notebooks, aber ein paar Netbooks in dieser extremen Gewichtsklasse. 7-9 Zoll Displays passen in diesen Gewichtsbereich.

Advent: Es handelt sich um die Eigenmarke des Hardware-Magazins PC World. Die Vermarktung dürfte sich auf Großbritannien fokussieren. Tests von Advent-Notebooks gibt es mittlerweile häufig, nicht nur von PC World.

71.25%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Die meisten Notebooks werden besser beurteilt. Als Kaufempfehlung darf man das nicht sehen. Auch wenn Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich gar nicht so schlecht klingen ("genügend" oder "befriedigend"), meist sind es Euphemismen, die eine Klassifikation als unterdurchschnittliches Notebook verschleiern.
