EN→DE Archive.org versionThe Acer Chromebook 714 can’t compete with pricier rivals on slim design and screen quality, and it often lags when it comes to raw power. If you want the market’s most stylish or speediest Chromebook, then you’re going to have to spend more. It’s possibly one of the best value Chromebooks around, though: it undercuts the competition significantly, it’s got enough power to handle everyday workloads, and it has a sturdy, good-looking chassis and decent battery life. It’s a good-value middle ground between premium options and bargain-basement portables.

EN→DE Archive.org versionThe Acer Chromebook 714 has a sleek aluminum chassis that I can't stop touching; its aversion to fingerprints and military-rated durality is another alluring draw of this professional-looking laptop. Worker bees will experience speedy productivity on this machine — its clicky keyboard and multitasking-friendly system will have users whizzing through assignments and tasks. Its snazzy-looking fingerprint reader is another interesting and rare feature.

EN→DE Archive.org versionWould I say this is better than the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630? No. I think the Lenovo is a better overall device. But the Yoga costs twice what this one does, so at this price, it doesn’t even enter the conversation. That is precisely why I’m saying this is the best 15-inch Chromebook for the money right now. Other 15-inch devices in this price range aren’t worth your time or money. Even if you ended up finding one of the other 15-inch Chromebooks for $50 or $75 cheaper, this one is so much better than all of them that I’d highly advise finding a way to come up with that extra cash. This Chromebook is truly one of those rare exceptions to the “get what you pay for” rule: it really is much better than what you are paying for it.

EN→DE Archive.org versionWhile Acer has definitely made the Chromebook 714 for business, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a sturdy Chromebook for home or school use. The configuration I tested was fine for handling typical daily tasks and entertainment (though you'll definitely want headphones or external speakers if you want to actually enjoy what you're listening to; the built-in speakers are thin and tinny).

EN→DE Archive.org versionAt the same time, those going into the Chromebook 714 need to temper expectations, primarily with respect to the display and keyboard. The ho-hum display and mushy keys with the flaky space bar prevent what is a good laptop from being a great laptop.

EN→DE Archive.org versionSorrowfully short battery life is the only thing that keeps Acer's 14-inch, Core i3-based Chromebook 714 from setting a new standard for business-ready Chrome OS laptops. The Acer Chromebook 714 targets the enterprise with features ranging from a fingerprint reader to Google Assistant.

EN→DE Archive.org versionFor now, I’d say hold off on this one until we start seeing sales. As it is being targeted towards the enterprise, it might take a bit of time to see those price drops. With Acer choosing to make this one much more widely-available in consumer markets already, however, I’d assume we’ll see the price dip down soon enough. If it comes down into the $400-$500 price range, my thoughts would shift quite a bit as I think this Chromebook offers a lot for the money and could be a device that user not only enjoy but can confidently own knowing it will stand up to a lot of abuse.
