Das Acer Predator Helios 300 ist ein rundum gelungenes Gaming-Notebook. Es bietet genügend Leistung für aktuelle Titel in Full HD-Auflösung bei maximalen Details. Die Leistung der SSD könnte zwar etwas höher ausfallen, dürfte aber für die meisten Anwender schnell genug sein. Praktisch ist der leicht zugängliche 2,5-Zoll-Schacht, mit dem sich die fehlende Festplatte bei unserem Modell einfach nachrüsten lässt.

The system boot and game load times on the Acer Predator Helios 300 is quite low. As most of it is handled by the large SSD within the machine. This machine is not a power hog either, 180W is what it consumes at max. The design is slim (because of which there is no DVD drive) and weight of 2.65Kg does make this notebook portable. All this seemed good and we almost moved past the "hot performance" till our eyes went over the price tag. The asking price of Rs 1,69,999 is steep and there is stiff competition from makers like ASUS, and MSI. Both have machines with similar tech specs at lesser price.

So is the 17-inch Helios 300 worth it? Well, the pricing of the machine is crucial and unfortunately, Acer wasn’t able to bring the price of this machine lower than the new 17-inch Acer Aspire V 17 Nitro BE and the Predator 17 (G5-793 with GTX 1060). So there’s not really a good reason to opt for the Helios 300 instead of the Predator 17, for instance, unless you really want the 7th generation Intel CPU and better portability because these are the only things in which the Helios 300 is better. And what about the 15-incher? With a display like this, the 17-inch Helios 300 appears to be the smarter choice here but you will give up some of the portability and the better build.

Das Acer Predator Helios 300 ist ein klassisches Gaming-Notebook, das man im 15,6- oder 17-Zoll-Format erwerben kann. Mit den neuen Geräten der Predator-Reihe konzentriert sich Acer auch in der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2017 auf Thermotechnologie, um Gaming-Hardware an die Grenzen zu stoßen. Das Predator Helios 300 wird mit Windows 10 geliefert und bietet High-End-Gaming-Features und -Technologien im mittleren Preissegment. Acers neue Aeroblade-3D-Lüfter und ein neues Design des Corning-Gorilla-Glass-Touchpads wurden mit der neuen, ultra-dünnen Gaming-Notebook-Reihe Predator Triton und den günstigeren Predator-Helios-Laptops vorgestellt. Die große Platte aus Cornings Gorilla Glass über der Tastatur hat zwei Funktionen: Es ist ein dekoratives Fenster in das Kühlsystem des Notebooks und stellt den Aeroblade-3D-Lüfter und fünf Wärmerohre zur Schau; gleichzeitig wirkt es auch als Touchpad. Acer wählte diesmal andere Materialien: gebürstetes Metall für den Deckel und die Innenseiten, raues Plastik für die Seitenteile und die Unterseite. Auf dem mattschwarzen Gehäuse sind mehr stilisierte rote Akzente als auf dem Triton 700, welches “seriöser” aussieht. Das Äußere ist hauptsächlich schwarz mit scharfen Schrägkanten sowie mehreren roten Akzenten und gestanzten Logos. Auf dem Deckel prangt ein großes Predator-Logo, das mit zwei roten, nicht hinterleuchteten Streifen flankiert ist.

Die schwarzen metallischen Oberflächen sind anfällig für Flecken und Fingerabdrücke, sodass man das Gerät oft abwischen muss. Bezüglich der Verarbeitungsqualität ist das Helios 300 recht gut gebaut und hat ein starkes Innendeck. Das Display kann man bis zu 150 Grad nach hinten drehen und die Scharniere können es in jeder Position stabil halten. Im Herzen des Predator Helios 300 ist eine übertaktbare Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 oder 1050Ti GPU, die mit einem Intel Core i7 (7700HQ) oder i5 Prozessor (7300HQ) siebter Generation für ausgezeichnete Leistung sorgt. All diese Rechenleistung wird von bis zu 16 GB DDR4-Arbeitsspeicher (aufrüstbar bis zu 32 GB), einer flotten SATA-SSD und einer 1-TB-HDD unterstützt. Zugriffsklappen auf der Unterseite der Notebooks bieten zusätzliche Möglichkeiten für die einfache Nachrüstung des Arbeits- und Massenspeichers. Noch ein weiteres Merkmal ist die Webcam. Sie ist über dem Bildschirm platziert und hat an der Seite zwei Mikorofone und eine LED, die leuchtet, wenn die Kamera eingeschaltet ist. Trotz der Weitwinkellinse ist die Bildqualität körnig und ausgewaschen. Das Predator Helios 300 bietet auch einen USB-3.1-Typ-C-Anschluss, eine USB-3.0-Schnittstelle (kann Geräte selbst bei ausgeschaltetem Zustand aufladen), 2x USB 2.0 sowie 1x HDMI 2.0. Dieses Notebook ist für gelegentliche Gamer geeignet, die gleichzeitig auch etwas Praktischeres brauchen.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
