The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i 16 Gen 9 is a decent-looking, well-enough-performing, and less-than-$800 desktop replacement. Its shortcomings, mostly a mediocre screen and awkward cursor control keys, keep it from competing for Editors' Choice honors, but it's worth a look if Costco or another favorite retailer puts up a discount. Again, we have two similarly big-screen Acer laptops to recommend instead, the Acer Swift Go 16 or the Acer Aspire 3, for either a bit more cash or a lot less, respectively.

Most of the things that we said about the IdeaPad Slim 5 Gen 9 (14″ AMD) also apply to the IdeaPad Slim 5 (16″ AMD). This is a well-built 16-inch machine that offers impressively powerful CPU options for such a thin profile. We bought a laptop with the Ryzen 7 8845HS which is the top chip model for this Lenovo series. Let’s start with the good news. During max processor loads, the two fans are audible but not noisy and the processor can maintain decent clocks in short and medium stress. When the AMD chip is pushed hard for a long time, the clocks here are below the official base ones and the WASD section reaches 55°C. On the bright side, this machine always feels responsive and the SSD is also fast. The optional OLED panel (LEN160 2K (LEN8ABC)) boasts a 120 Hz refresh rate, infinite contrast ratio, and full DCI-P3 coverage.

AMD Radeon 760M: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Rembrandt Ryzen APUs basierend auf der RDNA 3 Architektur mit 8 CUs (= 512 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 2.800 MHz.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
