It comes with slightly more modest hardware (16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage) for a lower starting price of $799. If you're looking for a functional 2-in-1 tablet/laptop, enjoy using a stylus, and don't need a ton of local storage, it's a great option, especially for its long-lasting battery. It's an all-around sharp-looking device, and the premium keyboard case provides a satisfying tactile experience. The cost of the Surface Pro can quickly add up, however, as the Surface Keyboard, Surface Arc mouse, and power adapter are sold separately, bringing the final cost over the $1,000 mark. Combined with the low amount of local storage and modest memory, I'd recommend this device for users who are committed to the 12-inch form factor and want reliable battery life.

Die Bauweise ist auf transportable Maße und ein geringes Gewicht ausgelegt, die Bedienung überzeugt im Alltag mit gutem Touchscreen und ausdauerndem Akku, die Verarbeitung ist einwandfrei. Einschränkungen gibt es bei der Anschlussvielfalt – klassische Schnittstellen und Thunderbolt fehlen. Zudem gibt es keine Ausstattungsvarianten mit OLED-Display. Das verbaute LC-Display bot im Test zwar eine gute Bildqualität, aber der OLED-typische immens hohe Kontrast und die damit verbundene knackige Darstellung fehlte. Dafür überzeugte das Surface Pro 2025 im Test mit einem hohen Arbeitstempo.

If all you want is something larger than your smartphone for watching Netflix or browsing the web, then Android tablets like the OnePlus Pad 3, or a basic iPad still makes more sense because they are cheaper and run an operating system designed for fingers. But if you want a device that can do basic tablet stuff and function as a grown-up laptop, then the new Surface Pro 12 is worth serious consideration. The combination of strong performance, outstanding battery life, a superb sound system and a good if not great display for under £800 is a hard combination to ignore. Granted, the price gets a bit steep when you opt for the keyboard and pen package, but you will then have a tremendously useful, versatile and compact Windows device that is ideal for a multitude of uses. By moving to a cheaper Snapdragon chipset, the Windows tablet has just gone from zero to hero. Who’d have thought it?

The Microsoft Surface Pro 12 is a good, solid laptop/tablet hybrid. It’s got enough power for everyday tasks, excellent battery life and a smart design. The display, while not OLED, is very good, and the kickstand remains one of my favourite design features on any tablet. However, this latest Surface shares many of the same issues that have plagued the series. While it’s great that the starting price is less than the MacBook Air M4 at £799/$799, you’ll need to spend more on the keyboard cover to make this a usable device. An iPad Pro M4 is a great tablet with or without a keyboard added, whereas Windows 11 still needs to be controlled with a trackpad or mouse to get the most from it.The design is a little uninspiring with those chunky screen bezels, and many of the AI features remain underbaked. This is a good entry-level Surface Pro that’d make a great student companion – it’s just not a true successor to the Surface Pro 11.

The comparison between the 13-inch and 12-inch models is an interesting one, because the bigger model has an OLED screen, better performance, and an actual charging adapter (this 12-inch model only has a USB-C cable), while not costing a whole lot more: $200 at the time of writing. Of course, you may value portability above everything else, in which case get the smaller one. If you've got an older Surface Pro and are thinking about upgrading, your choice isn't an easy one. It really depends how old your existing model is and how happy you are with its current levels of performance.

I’d still like to see Microsoft improve the tablet experience in Windows 11 with a mode that’s more like what existed in Windows 8. But even without those improvements, the 12-inch Surface Pro is as close as Microsoft has ever gotten to fulfilling my dream of a lightweight PC you can throw under your arm and carry around all day without worrying about battery life. It’s still not perfect, but it’s not the heartbreaker the Surface Pro X once was.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: Die Qualcomm Snapdragon X Adreno X1-45 ist die schwächste GPU in the Snapdragon X Plus SoCs mit nur 1,7 statt 3,8 TFLOPS an Leistung. Wahrscheinlich wird dies durch weniger Taktraten und / oder weniger Kerne erreicht.

Durch aktuell eingeschränkten Treibersupport und Spieleunterstüztung ist die 3D-Leistung und Kompabilität in Spielen jedoch nicht vergleichbar mit Nvidia und AMD iGPUs.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
