Der Core 2 Extreme X9000 war der damals schnellste Dual Core Prozessor mit 2.8 GHz und 6 MB Level 2 Cache. Er wurde später vom 3.06 GHz schnellen Core 2 Extreme X9100 abgelöst und besitzt wie dieser einen freien Multiplikator zur einfachen Übertaktung. Mit 44 Watt TDP ist der X9000 deutlich höher spezifiziert als andere CPUs der Core 2 Duo Serie (25-35W). Der modernere P9700 leistet z.B. ungefähr das Gleiche bei 25 Watt TDP.
