ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 X2

Zwei Mobility Radeon HD 3870 Grafikkarten im Crossfire Modus. Diese Lösung ist Vergleichbar mit SLI von Nvidia und zeigt etwa 20-40% Mehrleistung gegenüber einer einzelnen X3870 (je nach Spiel). Durch den Einsatz zweier HD 3870 Grafikkarten, ist auch der Stromverbrauch doppelt so hoch. Der Speicher wird jedoch nicht "verdoppelt", da jede Karte den selben Inhalt speichern muss.

Die Leistung der auch manchmal als Mobilty Radeon HD 3870 X2 benannten Karte liegt im Schnitt überhalb einer 8800M GTX SLI Kombination und reicht bei den meisten DirectX 9 Spielen für eine flüssige Darstellung in hoher Detailstufe und hohen Auflösungen. Z.b. läuft Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory in 1920x1200 mit über 70fps. Auch Oblivion, Prey oder HL2 Ep1 können in diesen Einstellungen mit hohen Frameraten gespielt werden. Anspruchsvollere DirectX 10 Spiele wie World in Conflict oder Crysis erlauben jedoch nur noch geringere Auflösungen / Detailstufen. Z.b. kann man den GTA 4 nur in XGA mit mittleren Details flüssig spielen.

Ein Problem von Multi-GPU Lösungen wie Crossfire ist das Problem von Microrucklern. Bei Frameraten von 30 fps kann es durch die unterschiedlichen Abstände zwischen zwei Bildern zu einem gespürten Ruckeln kommen, welches auf einer einzelnen GPU mit 30 fps nicht auftritt (da hier die Bilder gleichmäßig gerendert werden).

Wie auch die einzelne Karte, unterstützt der Crossfireverbund das Dekodieren von HD Videos um die CPU zu entlasten (Avivo HD).

Der Stromverbrauch der HD 3800er Serie leigt laut AMD bei 35-55 Watt. Daher muss man bei der Crossfire HD 3870 X2 mit bis zu 110 Watt rechnen.
