ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3850

Die ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3850 ist eine niedriger getaktete 3870 und technisch mit der Desktop HD 3850 verwandt. Der DirectX 10.1 Chip wird in 55nm gefertigt und soll leistungsmäßig mit der 8800M Serie konkurrieren. In der Praxis lag die Leistung zwischen 8700M GT und 8800M GTS. Die später veröffentlichte HD 4650 der Nachfolgegeneration war im Schnitt ähnlich schnell, bei deutlich geringerem Stromverbrauch.

Dadurch sollten DirectX 9 Spiele wie Crysis, Supreme Commander, World in Conflict oder UT3 flüssig dargestellt werden (wenn auch nicht in höchster Detailstufe, da dies auch eine 8800M GTX teilweise überfordert).

 

Die ATI Mobility Radeon 3850 ist der Desktop HD 3850 sehr ähnlich und basiert dadurch auf die selbe Architektur (jedoch ist die Desktop HD 3850 durch die höhere Taktung so schnell wie eine Mobility Radeon HD 3870). Der RV670 Chip bietet 64 5-dimensionale unified Shader-Einheiten (MADD) mit 16 ROPs, 16 TMUs, und 32 TAUs.

Die Mobility Radeon HD 3850 hat einen integrierten Unified Video Decoder (UVD+) welcher MPEG-2, VC-1 und H.264/AVC fast vollständig dekodiert (jedoch nur ein Strom). Die Videofunktionen werden von AMD auch Avivo HD benannt. Erst der UVD2 in der HD 4000 Serie kann zwei Ströme gleichzeitig decodieren (und unterstützt volles Bitstream dekodieren).

 

Der Stromverbrauch der Grafikkarte soll laut AMD zwischen 35-55 Watt liegen (3800er Serie), daher wird sie wahrscheinlich nur in großen und schweren Notebooks zu finden sein.

Die folgenden Benchmarks wurden mit einer Puma Plattform (Turion 64 Ultra mit 2.4 GHz) durchgeführt und können mit einer schnelleren Core 2 Duo CPU noch höher ausfallen.
