NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS

Der Nvidia GeForce 9700M GTS ist ein Notebook Grafikchip, welcher auf die G94 Kern basiert. Dadurch setzt sich die Karte von der 9700M GT ab (die auf den G96 Kern basiert mit nur 32 Shadern). Jedoch wurde bei der 9700M GTS die Shaderanzahl auf 48 beschränkt. Hergestellt wird die GTS in 65 nm.

Wie alle DirectX 10 Grafikkarten besitzt auch der GeForce 9700M GTS "Unified Shader". Es existieren keine dedizierten Pixel- bzw Vertexshader mehr, sondern 48 so genannte Stream Prozessoren übernehmen einfach die anstehende Grafikarbeit (die früher die Pixel und Vertex Shader übernommen haben). Weiters sind die Shadereinheiten höher getaktet als der Chip und 1-dimensional.

Die Leistung der 9700M GTS liegt laut Nvidia zwischen 9700M GT und 9800M GTS. DirectX 10 Spiele aus 2008-2009 sind in hohen Details wohl nur eingeschränkt spielbar. Zum Beispiel lief der Crysis Benchmark nur in mittleren Details bei 1024x768 knapp flüssig (30 fps). Mit etwas reduzierten Details sollte eine flüssige Darstellung erreicht werden können. Als Speicherausstattung  gibt es bis zu 512 MB GDDR3.

Ein Vorteil der GeForce 9000er Serie ist der integrierte PureVideo HD Videoprozessor. Dieser kann bei der Dekodierung von H.264-, VC-1-, MPEG2- und WMV9 Videomaterial in HD Qualität mithelfen und dadurch die CPU entlasten.

HybridPower ermöglicht das Umschalten zwischen onboard Grafik (mit Nvidia Chipsatz) und dedizierter Grafikkarte (9700M GTS) in Windows Vista. Dadurch kann die dedizierte Grafikkarte abgeschaltet werden, wenn sie nicht benötigt wird (Office, Surfen) und dadurch Energie gespart werden. Hybrid Power kann im Vista Betrieb umgeschalten werden (derzeit noch manuell per Tool, später lt. Nvidia automatisch im Treiber). GeforceBoost funktioniert mit der 9700M GTS nicht, da sie von der Zusammenschaltung mit der Chipsatzgrafik (SLI) nicht profitieren würde.

Der Stromverbrauch von bis zu 60 Watt (des ganzen Boards) erlaubt den Einsatz der Karte nur in Notebooks mit einem leistungsstarken Kühlsystems. Daher ist die 9700M GTS nur in schweren und großen Notebooks zu finden.
