NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M

Die NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M ist eine Grafikkarte für mobile Workstations (Calpella Platform) mit 15" Bildschirm. Sie basiert technisch auf die GeForce GT 335M (selber Chip) wird jedoch mit einem speziellen BIOS und professionellen Treibern ausgeliefert. Im Unterschied zur GT 335M kann die FX1800M auch mit schnellem GDDR5 Grafikspeicher ausgerüstet werden und anscheinend wird der Kern auch höher getaktet.

Die Quadro FX 1800M basiert auf einen in 40nm gefertigten Grafikchip welcher DirectX 10.1 und OpenGL 3.2 beherrscht. Die 72 1-dimensionalen Shader können in etwa mit 300-400 Shader von AMD verglichen werden da diese in 5-dimensionalen Gruppen ausgeführt werden.

Die zertifizierten Treiber der FX 1800M garantieren einen reibungslosen Betrieb und eine schnellere Darstellung von professionellen Applikationen (CAD, DCC). Auf nvidia.com findet man eine Liste der zertifizierten Anwendungen wie z.B. Premiere, Photoshop, After Effect, AutoCAD, 3ds Max, trueSpace, Blender, Catia, IronCAD, Cinema 4D, Lightwave 3D, Softimage, Mathematica ... Besonders OpenGL Anwendungen werden durch die Quadro FX Treiber deutlich beschleunigt.

Die Spieleleistung ist vergleichbar mit der Mittelklasse GeForce GT 335M, jedoch kann es durch die Applikationsoptimierung der Treiber zu kleinen Nachteilen im Vergleich zu einer GeForce Grafikkarte kommen. Spieler sollten eher zu einer GeForce Grafikkarte greifen, da die Forceware Treiber öfter gewartet werden und daher bei Spielen schneller und fehlerfreier arbeiten. Trotzdem sollte die FX 1800M die meisten aktuellen Spiele (2009 - 2010) bei mittleren Details flüssig darstellen können.

Durch CUDA, OpenCL und DirectCompute können die Rechenkerne der Grafikkarte auch für andere Applikationen benutzt werden (z.B. Encoding von Videos). Dank PureVideo HD Support kann die Quadro FX 1800M HD Videos mittels des VP4 Videoprozessors dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

Der Grafikchip unterstützt das automatische Umschalten von der integrierten Grafikkarte mit Optimus obwohl die ersten Workstations aufgrund der langen Entwicklungszeit dies noch nicht unterstützen (nicht nachrüstbar!).
