Amazing, but true. On the other hand, it is crazy that the Xiaomi 12T Pro will cost substantially more than the 11T Pro did a year ago. In some respects, the 12T Pro is actually worse than its direct predecessor – such as the brightness of the screen, the size of the camera’s telephoto lens, and the choice of Gorilla Glass 5 for screen protection, where the 11T Pro came with Gorilla Glass Victus – so if you already own than Xiaomi 11T Pro you’ d better keep it.

All in, Xiaomi 12T Pro satisfies what it’s designed to offer. You can’t really go wrong with this phone choice if your core focus is on a fluid display, good battery uptime, and a powerful processor in your phone. It's true that there are cheaper, more polished alternatives to choose from, but the Xiaomi 12T Pro is functional in those areas too. It's a good overall package that also convinced us to give our Best Value accolade. If you want to spend as little as possible and still get a phone with an SD8+G1 processor and all the ‘core’ flagship perks, the Xiaomi 12T Pro is quite literally it (at least in Singapore). In our initial launch coverage, you'll also note that Xiaomi still offers a non-Pro Xiaomi 12T at somewhat similar pricing to the Xiaomi 11T Pro, but you don't get the top-tier treatment like its choice of camera sensors, less memory and trading Snapdragon for a Mediatek processor.

It’s powerful, the camera produces nice images during the day and night, and the screen is superior to phone mid-rangers, with more pixels and above-average brightness. While the battery life is not standard-setting, it’s solid, and the charging speed is excellent. It’s just a shame the 12T isn’t actually an upgrade from the old Xiaomi 11T in all respects. Aspects of the 12T’s build are worse, and the macro camera is much worse. You might want to see if you can get that older model for cheap before it disappears entirely. However, I find the 12T easier to recommend than the pricier 12T Pro, as the latter’s upgraded 200-megapixel camera isn’t actually much better than the former’s 108-megapixel one. And while the 12T Pro has a punchier processor, it can overheat when under strain for longer periods, which I haven’t seen happening with the 12T.

The display’s readability, however, was challenged under sunlight conditions, making it difficult to read content. HDR videos also appeared to lack brightness on the screen. Still, the Xiaomi 12T’s display performance was an improvement over its predecessor, the Xiaomi 11T. The 12T’s display provided excellent smoothness, particularly during web browsing and viewing the photo gallery. Our testers saw an improvement over the 11T in color rendering and white-point management. Artifacts on the 12T were well-managed, flicker in particular, and the display’s touch performance was quite good. However, readability on the 12T was not as good as on the 11T, even though the 12T’s score was more than 10 points higher than the 12T Pro version. Xiaomi’s website says the 12T’s display can reach a maximum 900 nits, but we measured brightness going up to 990 nits in sunlight. The 12T’s display tone mapping, however, gave the impression of diminished screen brightness when watching HDR10 videos, compared with the 11T. Overall, the High-end segmented 12T, which is fitted with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100 Ultra chipset, managed to outperform the Premium-segmented 12T Pro, which is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ (Gen1) processor. This was also the case last year when the 11T also outperformed the 11T Pro version.

Xiaomi:

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Qualcomm Adreno 730: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Laut Qualcomm um 30% schneller als die alte Adreno 660 im Snapdragon 888.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

ARM Mali-G610 MP6: Mid-Range Grafikchip für Smartphones mit 6 Kernen. Basiert auf die zweite Generation der Valhall Architektur.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 8+ Gen 1: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2021 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X2 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 3,2 GHz und drei weitere schnelle Cortex-A710 basierende Performance-Kerne mit bis zu 2,5 GHz. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A510 Kerne verbaut. Integriert ein 5G Modem, WiFi 6e und eine Hexagon AI Engine. Im Vergleich zum SD 8 Gen 1 bietet die Plus Version einen um 200 MHz höher getakteten Prime Core und einen 10% höheren GPU-Takt.

Dimensity 8100: Der Dimensity 8100 ist ein Mittelklasse-Prozessor mit integriertem 5G Modem. Der CPU-Teil integriert vier schnelle ARM Cortex-A78 Kerne (bis 2,85 GHz) und vier Stromsparkerne vom Typ Cortex-A55 mit bis zu 2 GHz.
