Dank SSD-Speicher und Core i7 bietet das Notebook ein sehr hohes Performanceniveau. Negativpunkte sind der pulsierende Lüfter sowie das blasse Display. Der Preis von rund 2000 Euro dürfte viele abschrecken.

Eine eleganter, schlanker und letztlich auch ausreichend robuster Begleiter auf Geschäftsreisen ist das Portege R700 in der Tat. Dass ein schlankes Design nicht nur Vorteile bringt, sieht man letztendlich bei den Emissionen. Unter Last kann unser Testgerät ganz schön warm werden. Zudem fällt die unruhige Lüftersteuerung und die Geräuschcharakteristik des Lüfters negativ auf.

Frequent travelers or anyone else looking for a highly portable but powerful notebook will find a lot to like about the Portege R700. It's one of the fastest notebooks we've tested under 4 pounds, and the design feels stronger than its 12-inch predecessor. We also appreciate the machine's 6 hours of battery life. Unfortunately, we had to dock points for its high temperatures and less-than-stellar ergonomics. A part of us wishes Toshiba switched to the ULV version of Intel's Core i5 CPU for cooler and quieter operation, though you'd sacrifice some performance. Nevertheless, the R700 is a strong choice as is.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Intel HD Graphics oder GMA HD genannte onboard Grafikkarte welche im Package der Core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale Dual-Core Prozessoren untergebracht wird. Je nach Prozessormodell maximal mit 500 bis 766 MHz getaktet (Turbo Boost). Von Lenovo anscheinend auch GMA5700MHD genannt. Die gleichgenannte Intel HD Graphics Prozessorgrafik in den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren basiert auf einer neueren Architektur.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

520M: Der Core i5-520M besitzt im Vergleich zum i7-640 nur 3MB L3 Cache und taktet zwischen 2.4-2.93 GHz (je nach Auslastung dank Turbo Mode). Durch Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet. Im Package ist auch noch eine integrierte Grafikkarte (GMA HD mit 500-766 MHz) und ein Speichercontroller (beide noch 45nm Fertigung). 13.3": 13 Zoll ist ein häufiges, jedenfalls aber das grösste Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das verhältnismäßig kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten ein wenig anstrengend für die Augen ist. Sehr hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar. Nicht fehlsichtige Menschen sollten mit dieser Displaygröße aber zurechtkommen können.

77.92%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
