The Toshiba Portege R835-P50X is still the ultraportable to beat, but Acer's little gem isn't too far behind.

Also, it has a good video card that allows for some smooth gaming and HD playback, all this in a package that’s not very expensive if you look at what’s cooking right now on the market. Sure, it has its flaws in terms of display quality, noise and, under certain circumstances, battery life, but these are all passable for a mainstream laptop.

Mit der Aspire TimelineX Serie hat Acer schlanke Consumer-Notebooks im Angebot. Je nach Wunsch sind die aktuellen Geräte mit 15,6-, 14- oder einem 13,3-Zoll-Bildschirm erhältlich. Letzterer findet sich im 3830TG, das in der neusten Auflage unterschiedliche Zielgruppen bedient. Die Anzeige löst mit den üblichen 1366 x 768 Pixel im 16:9 Format auf. Die Messwerte sowie die glänzende Bildschirmoberfläche werden im Großteil der Testberichte kritisiert. Bei der Hardware reicht die Spanne von der Mainstream CPU Intel Core i5-2410M bis zu einem Intel Core i7-2620M samt SSD-Speichermodul. Im puncto Grafik setzt Acer durchgehend auf die beliebte Mittelklasse-GPU Nvidia GeForce GT 540M mit DDR3-Speicher.
Pluspunkte kann diese Modellreihe bei dem Schnittstellenumfang, den überzeugenden Laufzeiten und dem geringen Idle-Energiebedarf einstreichen. Nachteile, die sich in vielen Testberichten finden, sind der fest integrierte 6-Zellen-Akku, die Temperaturentwicklung unter Last, die schlechten Lautsprecher und das rasche CPU-Throttling im Alltag. Diese Punkte ziehen sich mit leichten Abweichungen durch alle Geräte der neuaufgelgten Serie. Insgesamt ist der letzte Punkt wohl der schwerwiegendste Minuspunkt für Käufer.
Mit einem Einstiegspreis von aktuell 699 Euro bietet Acer mit dem Aspire TimelineX 3830Tg ein grundsätzlich sehr attraktives Paket an, dass Mobilität und Leistung vereint. Die Hardware-Drosselung ist aber ein Minuspunkt, den Acer bis heute nicht beheben konnte oder wollte?
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M: Mittelklasse Grafikkarte basierend auf dem GT 435M Chip (GF108) jedoch mit minimal höheren Taktraten und Unterstützung für GDDR5 und DDR3 mit 900 MHz.
Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
