It's a sad reality that little in the laptop world can match the likes of Apple's ultra-thin MacBook Air when it comes to that metal-clad look and feel. Some of the few alternatives are Dell's Adamo and Adamo XPS, but with prices starting at £1,000, neither is exactly affordable. That's why we were excited about last year's Vostro V13, which wasn't quite as sexy but a lot cheaper. The Latitude 13 we're looking at today shares the same 13.3in, ultra-slim, metal-clad chassis, so let's see if it's the ultra-portable for you.

Dell isn't exactly renowned for producing laptops with exciting designs, so the 13.3-inch Latitude 13's slim dimensions and sexy appearance come as a surprise. Our configuration of the Dell Latitude 13 impressed with its slim dimensions and good battery life, but its performance was compromised by its sluggish processor and stingy 1GB of RAM.

We’re finding ourselves in a love-hate relationship with the Dell Latitude 13, an ultra-slim ultraportable for the business masses. We love its thin, all-metal chassis (adapted from Dell's high-end Adamo model) and the fact that it's less expensive than any other 13-inch notebook that comes close to its thickness and weight. This lightweight, thin companion is for business users who need basic performance and lots of security. Battery life and performance miss the mark, however.

More performance and features can be found for the same money elsewhere. It's far from being a speed demon, but it's quick enough for regular admin work. The Dell Latitude 13 stands out more for its slim profile, low weight yet still sturdy build.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Im GM45, GS45 und GE45 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
