On balance, this generation of the XPS 13 misses the mark. The touchbar won't be remembered kindly, the two lonely USB-C ports are excessively frugal, and neither the performance or battery life are good enough to ignite any real passion. Overall, there's lots of room for improvement, and while Lunar Lake is set to address some of our performance and battery life concerns, it'll do nothing for the various design niggles. If this all sounds excessively negative, the reasons for that are twofold: firstly, we expect a lot from the XPS 13 given its heritage; and secondly, because of the quality of the competition.

This XPS 13 remains for sale because it’s the one that runs the standard version of Windows 11 on Intel’s current chipset. The Dell XPS 13 is a disappointment. It might be a beauty to behold, but it all crumbles underneath the utility. Dell’s new design makes for a keyboard that feels great on the individual key level but can be harder to navigate. And the premium design comes at a cost without also coming with boosted performance to justify it. In our tests, the XPS 13 generally lags behind its competitors by a notable margin, and they’re all significantly cheaper. And that’s with the base configuration in mind, which offers a simple IPS panel and compares poorly to the OLEDs a couple of its competitors are offering. It’s just too hard to justify springing for the XPS 13 when it’s beat on so many counts.

Prices start at $1,299 for the base model. However, to get the most out of it, you'll want to opt for better configurations, which increases the final cost. As stated earlier, go for the Quad HD Plus display with the 120Hz refresh rate.

The Dell XPS 13 9340 is a great-looking compact device with a solid metal build. Its backlit keyboard with a capacitive top-row touch panel is suitable for long hours of typing. The base has a glass layer that feels premium. Of course, this contributes to the high price of the laptop. The comfort under loud is good – the fans aren’t too loud even when the CPU is loaded at max. At the same time, the base isn’t scorching hot to the touch. This machine relies on Meteor Lake CPU variants with a 28W base power. Our notebook has the optional Core Ultra 7 155H. Its clocks in long loads are acceptable given how thin this machine is. Unfortunately, the processor temperature is always around the 96°C – 100°C mark. The upgradability is almost non-existent – you can only change the SSD, that’s all.

Intel Arc 8-Core: Integrierte Grafikkarte basierend auf die Xe LPG Architektur (ähnlich zu den dedizierten Arc GPUs, jedoch mit Fokus auf Effizienz). Bietet alle 8 Xe Kerne (128 Xe Vector Engines) und 8 Raytracing Einheiten.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
