Satte und volle Töne erschallen aus den Lautsprechern. Schwierigkeiten gibt es lediglich bei sehr basslastigen Musikstücken. Weitere positive Eigenschaften sind das sehr klare Bild des LCDs und die maximale Abweichung der Helligkeitsverteilung von 4 Prozent. Wer auf dem Alienware 18 zocken möchte, der sollte sich unbedingt eine Maus anschaffen.

In unserem Test stellt das Alienware 18 dabei eindrucksvoll unter Beweis, dass auch die 2013er Auflage der Amerikaner ohne Frage der König dieser Unvernunftsmodelle ist. Es ist hervorragend verarbeitet, besitzt ein tolles Display und eine extreme Leistung – ist dafür aber mindestens genau so extrem teuer.

More so than the Alienware 17 and Origin EON17-S, or any gaming laptop in existence, users should think long and hard before picking up an Alienware 18. There are just far too many more affordable and sensible options out there. For roughly the same price, you can build a desktop around an Nvidia Titan part (or two even) and still have enough leftover to build a beastly gaming machine. At half the price, both of these listed competitors serve up more than enough graphical horsepower to play most games out today. You might have to spend your first moments in-game toning down the settings for the optimal experience, but a more affordable option will leave you with more money in the bank to spend on monitors, peripherals, Doritos or whatever else tickles your fancy.

The Alienware 18 is a one-of-a-kind gaming notebook that excels in nearly every area. Highlights of the Alienware 18 includes its beautiful 18.4” IPS display; excellent performance for all tasks, especially gaming; stealth-like design and AlienFX customizable lighting system; solid build quality; good-feeling keyboard and touchpad; loud speakers; and it even gets respectable battery life (3-4 hours normal usage). The only con that stands out is the glossy display surface which can produce some annoying reflections depending on the ambient lighting.

The first thing which will hit anyone opening the Alienware 18 box is its size. This is a massive system and while it is absolutely possible to sit with it on your lap (I am doing that now to write this review) if you slouch, it begins to be an issue looking over the screen and moving about on the couch/chair is a bit awkward and a weight lifting exercise.

There’s no denying that the Alienware 18 gaming notebook is a very powerful system targeting the high end audience who want a desktop replacement. It offers significantly more power than many desktop PC’s we have reviewed this year and there are few laptops out there which will be able to compete. We love the design of the Alienware 18, it is very dramatic and will attract the eye of people close by which is exactly what a gamer will want when spending a lot of money. The use of anodized aluminium and soft-touch plastic give the 18 an exclusive look and feel which could only be rivaled by a Macbook Pro. The integration of customisable LED lighting is ensure to entice those gamers who like to show off at LAN events, too!

Alienware, das Flagschiff im mobilen Gaming ist zurück. Die jüngste Gaming-Laptop-Serie bringt verglichen mit dem Vorgänger eine neues und frisches Design. Die Alienware 18 Serie kommt immer noch mit einer herkömmlichen Tastatur, die beim Spielen und üblichen Aufgaben, wie Textverarbeitung angenehm ist. Das Touchpad dieses Geräts ist vollständig beleuchtet und sieht bei Tageslicht großartig aus. Videos und Spiele sind am 18,4-Zoll Bildschirm eine große Erleichterung, einmal abgesehen davon, dass der Bildschirm eine 1920x1080 Auflösung bietet. Die Stereolautsprecher des Gaming-Laptops sorgen für einen ausgezeichneten Klang. Das Alienware 18 bietet einen Intel Core i7 Quad-Core-Prozessor, 32 GB RAM, eine 512 GB SSD und eine 750 GB Festplatte. Mit zwei Nvidia GTX 780M GPUs in einem SLI-Setup - jedes davon mit 4 GB DDR5 Speicher, sollte am Alienware jedes anspruchsvolle Spiel mit Leichtigkeit laufen. Es ist fair, die Laptops der Alienware-18-Serie als die stärksten Gaming-Laptops am Markt zu bezeichnen. Dank großartigem und leisem Kühlsystem gibt es keine Abwärme-Probleme.

Der Laptop ist klobig und mit 6 kg schwer. Zudem, hält der Akku nur 2 Stunden und 30 Minuten üblicher Verwendung durch. Andererseits ist er als Desktop-Replacement ideal. Anders als andere Laptops läuft das Alienware 18 unter Windows 7 Home Premium statt Windows 8. Trotzdem ist es eine großartige Wahl für jene, die einen zuverlässigen Gaming-Laptop suchen. Für einen hohen Preis bekommt man die stärksten Gaming-Geräte aktuell am Markt.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

18.40": Diese Displaygrösse ist ein Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind. Alienware: Alienware wurde 1996 in den USA gegründet. Die europäische Hauptniederlassung befindet sich in Irland. Alienware gehört seit 2006 zum Dell-Konzern. Die Produktpalette fokussiert vor allem Gaming-Laptops und -Desktops, die von Dell entwickelt und hergestellt werden. Markenzeichen ist ein leicht futuristisch anmutendes Design mit einem Alien als Logo. Zusätzlich werden Workstations für Privat- und Geschäftskunden vertrieben.

Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es auch bei Alienware einige Kritikpunkte. Einige Kunden haben sich über die hohen Preise der Produkte beschwert, während andere die Qualität der Kundendienstleistungen bemängelt haben. Es gab auch einige Berichte über Probleme mit der Zuverlässigkeit und Haltbarkeit einiger Alienware-Produkte. Allerdings haben viele Kunden auch positive Erfahrungen mit der Marke gemacht und schätzen die leistungsstarken Gaming-Computer.
