Der Dell XPS 14z gefällt mit hochwertigen Materialien, einer flachen Bauform und schickem Design. Auch die Akkulaufzeit von etwa funf Stunden, die komfortable Tastatur sowie die CPU-Leistung überzeugen. Obwohl im Testgerät nur die Intel-Grafik zum Einsatz kommt, wird das Gerät bei stärkerer Auslastung relativ laut.

Mit dem XPS 14z hat Dell eine kompaktere und leichtere Version seines 15z herausgebracht – nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Optisch genauso schick und durchgestylt zeigt sich das 14z auch innerlich ähnlich stark. Lediglich ein Full-HD-Panel steht nicht als Option bereit. Der Sound ist ohne Subwoofer nicht so kräftig wie bei ausgewachsenen Multimedia-Spezialisten, für ein Subnotebook aber überdurchschnittlich gut.

Beim Gehäuse, insbesondere bei der Optik, macht Dell beinahe alles richtig. Das XPS 14z kommt ebenso stilsicher daher wie sein größerer Kollege und macht damit in jedem erdenklichen Umfeld eine gute Figur.

The Dell XPS 14z won’t replace a MacBook Pro, but it is decent alternative for creatives on a budget. The low screen resolution and the unimpressive keyboard are a reason to look at alternatives like the HP ProBook 5330m which offers a better typing experience, though no optical drive. If you spend more time in Photoshop and movie editing tools than writing papers and emails, the Dell XPS 14z is a notebook you should seriously consider, especially with a $799 starting price.

At Rs.78,900, the Dell XPS 14z is quite an expensive 14-inch notebook, but then it does justify that price, to an extent. The price jump seems to be related to the 3-year warranty that comes as standard. Also, the notebook packs an impeccable build and finish and the attention to detail is pretty darn good. More importantly, it feels like a premium product and it also has the goods to back it up. If portability and style is your criteria, then the XPS 14z is a good buy. However, just keep in mind that you’ll have to compromise on the lack of USB 3.0, a non –removable battery and the fact that you’re pretty much stuck to the two configurations that Dell have whipped up.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Einsteigergrafikkarte basierend auf den GF119 Chip (Fermi Ableger) mit 64 Bit Speicheranbindung oder den GF108 mit 128 Bit aber geringeren Taktraten.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

79.23%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen. Dieses Notebook wird von den Testern eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich angesehen, eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen.
