River of LED-lit multimedia keys. HD TV tuner. Options for HD DVD-ROM and WUXGA screen in the summer. Good gaming scores. Best design for a 20-inch laptop. Great range of screen positions. Cons: Back-breaking monster of a laptop. Huge AC adapter. Exorbitant price tag.

Fazit: Featuring a dual-hinged 20-inch widescreen display, Intel's next-generation Centrino technology, and all the multimedia bells and whistles you can dream up, the HP HDX is one smokin' desktop replacement. With a starting price of $2,999, and with our tested configuration costing somewhere between $4,000 and $4,500 (the company was still finalizing the price as of press time), there's no question that the HP HDX is a premium notebook.

Fazit: As an entertainment powerhouse that will replace your desktop computer the performance and appearance of the HP Pavilion HDX seems to match up to its billing. However, Dell's 18-month-old offering seems to offer a better designed form factor with that handle and detachable keyboard. Expect a full review of the new HP Pavilion HDX when it comes out later in the year. Preview - HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook

Fazit: Although notebooks have generally been associated with mobility, it is perhaps not surprising that consumers are looking at bigger ones that can fulfill their needs. Speaking from experience, a large widescreen display increases productivity immensely and more users are concerned about this now. After all, the notebook population is expanding rapidly, as consumers abandon their dowdy desktops for more expensive but sleek notebooks. Not everyone will be enamored about mobility. To some, portability is a bonus rather than the most important requirement, as users want all the advantages offered by a desktop but with the caveat that it has the footprint and possibly the power savings of a notebook.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT: DirectX 10 Grafikkarte von ATI und direkter Konkurrent der NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Grafikkkarte für Notebooks. Erstmals aufgetaucht im HP Pavillion HDX 20" Desktopreplacement Notebook zeigt die Karte sehr gute Benchmarks (gepart mit dem Intel T7700 Core 2 Duo Prozessor) und würde sich sogar knapp in die Leistungsklasse 1 setzen. Dies würde bedeuten, daß die Karte alle modernen Spiele in hohen Auflösungen ruckelfrei darstellen kann. Die ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT ist ausserdem zertifiziert für Windows Vista (füpr das Aero User Interface).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Der Core 2 Duo ist ein Nachfolger von Core Duo und Core Solo mit längerer Pipeline und bis zu 20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs ohne mehr Strom zu verbrauchen. 64-Bit EM64T Befehlserweiterung und 2 oder 4MB L2 Cache zeichnen den Prozessor mit seinen 291 Millionen Transistoren, die in 65 nm gefertig werden, aus.

20.1": Dieses Format gibt es erst seit 2006 für riesige Desktop-Replacement-Notebooks und wird noch sehr selten verbaut. Es ist derzeit kein grösserer Display für Laptops verfügbar. Kritiker stellen allerdings in Frage, ob man denn diese Geräte überhaupt noch Notebook oder Laptop nennen kann.

Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.

7.4 kg: Dieser Laptop ist extrem schwer. Selbst Säuglinge kann man leichter tragen. Nur wenige Desktop Replacements mit 20 Zoll Display passen in diese Gewichtsklasse.

HP: HP gehört zu den grössten internationalen Herstellern hinsichtlich Marktanteile und getesteter Modelle am deutsch- und englisch-sprachigen Markt. Hp-Notebooks finden sich häufig in Top-Positionen bzgl. der Preis/Leistungs-Bewertung wieder.
